Sweet Caroline

Caroline Theard
Home: Flushing
Age: 19
Height: 5’ 5"
Weight: 120 lbs
Stats: 34-26-37
This beauty has lived in Queens – perhaps in more parts of Queens than most. She grew up in Hollis until she was 10, then moved to Flushing but went to Bayside High School.
That feeling of being all over the place seems to have carried on for Caroline, who in addition to her modeling has her eyes set on acting and hair design as well.
“I really enjoy acting and doing hair,” this beautiful brunette said.
But the modeling has been the most consistent work. When she took time out from her schedule to talk to QConf she was on the set for a video for an up-and-coming boy band. “Me and my friend had always been interested in it,” Caroline explained about her attraction to modeling. “We decided to look up how to get photo shoots, found "model mayhem" and "one model place." We’ve been doing it for a good year now.”
Right now Caroline is enrolled at Queensborough Community College, where she is majoring in sociology, but looking at the idea of a career in video production.
“I have some experience in that, and I figure I’m going to transfer to Tisch or Pratt at some point,” she said.
When not being the sexy girl in front of the camera, Caroline enjoys hanging out at the movies or going to any number of Chinese restaurants in Flushing. “I love the cuisine here,” she said.
This vivacious young woman describes herself as an outgoing, fun, easy-to-work-with, people person, who is not shy and is very creative.
“I’m very fun,” Caroline said. “I like to make people laugh.”

| Hollis' Rev Run, Tyra Banks
|
Hollis born and bred Run DMC co-founder Joseph Simmons, better known as the Rev. Run, recently strutted his stuff unknowingly on the Tyra Banks Show last week.
Run stepped out and said he never expected his entrance to the set to be a runway.
“It’s a runway. That’s what you do,” he said to Banks.
He proceeded to tell the audience about his conversion to Christianity.
“I was at the top of my game,” he said. “I said to God, ‘Lord, you must have something else for me to achieve.’”
From then he took a new direction that led him to become a minister, actor in his own reality show, “Run’s House,” and gospel rapper.
Banks then told him how a few years back when she was 15 she went to one of his shows and sneaked backstage for an autograph.
“I took it to school to show all my friends and they said, ‘Fool, that’s the bodyguard’s autograph.’”
Run replied, “So you met Bobby. He signs autographs for fans all the time.”

Punching At The Sun
The world is about to get a raw glimpse of what it’s like to be a Pakistani teen in Elmhurst struggling to find a path between rage and redemption after a racially motivated murder in the wake of Sept. 11. The heart-wrenching story of Mameet Nayak, a young man with a blazing crossover dribble and a temper to match, is scheduled to hit the screens of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival early next month in Park City, Utah.
“Punching at the Sun,” directed by Tanuj Chopra, is a genre defying, kung-fu-basketball, hip-hop, Bollywood-dance, fantasy art film about death, loss, teen love, pain, sneakers and “The Revolution.”
Nayak’s Muslim beliefs are placed on the line as first generation immigrant cultures battle the newer influences of American hip-hop, street basketball, urban fashion, graffiti, post 9-11 racial and ethnic politics, youth violence, and interracial relationships, all while coping with his older brother’s murder.
“Punching at the Sun” showcases the dizzying complexity of contemporary Queens as a window into the future of the American dream.
The film is one of 24 out-of-competition dramatic and documentary works by some of the most promising new independent filmmakers from the U.S. and abroad in the Spectrum program of Sundance.

Keyes’ Man Steps Out
|
| Alicia Keyes and boyfriend Far Rock's Kerry Brothers
|
After helping to launch successful careers for other hip hop stars, producer and Far Rockaway native Kerry “Krucial” Brothers will taking the mic for his debut album “Take Back Da Hood.”
Brothers is the boyfriend of mega R&B star Alicia Keys, for whom he has produced several of the Grammy winning albums she has put out. Together they have formed Krucial Keys Productions, which writes and produces all of the R&B diva’s music. But now the Southeast Queens native is looking to step out from the shadow of his woman and make his own mark in the music world.
“The first time I wanted to take music seriously is when Run-DMC was coming out. I was a little kid. I went from being an aspiring rapper to getting more and more into music,” he said in an interview with Chronic Magazine.
Another inspiration that Brothers pointed out was fellow Queens rap exec Russell Simmons. “With him being from Queens and me being from Queens, I thought maybe I can do it too,” Brothers said. “He made me want to be more involved in using hip-hop to change my destiny.”
“Take Back Da Hood” will be released in February of 2006.

No Liu Liu
As the chairman of the busy Transportation Committee, Councilman John Liu has a lot on his plate already bashing the reliably unreliable MTA.
But he still has found time to take over temporary control of the Consumer Affair Committee after Councilman Philip Reed (D-Manhattan) stepped down to take care of some personal problems. Liu will likely finish out Reed’s term, when the selection of a new Speaker will shake up the Council.
Liu has wasted little time utilizing his chairmanship, holding hearings on several pieces of legislation. And for the extra work, Liu doesn’t get paid anything extra; apparently, he just enjoys lending a helping hand and sending out press releases.
It will be interesting to see what happens, however, when the new speaker starts to assign committee posts. Will Liu use this short stint as an opportunity to jump from one committee to the other? Only time will tell.
The MTA is keeping its fingers crossed.

Rerun Jerry

| Jerry Seinfeld: From Queens To Reruns
|
Sure, we’d all love to see Jerry Seinfeld back in action on our television screens with a new sitcom, but unfortunately, all we get is the same old re-runs.
The Queens College graduate said recently that he would never do another sitcom. Why not? It may be the fact that Seinfeld has a little bit of money in the bank, as he sold the show’s syndication rights for $225,000,000.
But the reason the comic gave was that he doesn’t think that he would ever be able to match the success of “Seinfeld.”
So he's going back to his stand-up roots.
In a one night affair, Seinfeld will be taking his routine to Las Vegas Feb. 20, along with music icons, Celine Dion and Elton John for a hurricane relief concert scheduled to be performed at the Caesar’s Palace Resort and Casino.
Tickets, which are now on sale, won’t come cheap, as you would probably expect.
Price ranges are from $100 to $1,000 and by now, on-line ticket scalpers might be the only way to get a seat.
So, unless you’ve gotten an unusually large holiday bonus this year, your best bet to Seinfeld anywhere, might just be to keep watching those re-runs and hope there’s an episode you might have missed.
