Skyye Has No Limit
|
|
Home: Hollis Age: 22 Height: 5’ 8" Weight: 135 Stats: 34-27-39
Surprise – Skyye is not this Hollis-born beauty’s real name.
“I was just thinking that the sky is the limit – and there is no limit, nothing can stop me,” Skyye said as she explained her name.
Skyye found her way into modeling after working for a little while as a make-up artist.
“My passion is to be a make-up artist,” she said. “Modeling is what I do to get an upper hand. I make connections, do some networking and when I do make-up for another model I know how they feel and they like that.” For the last five years Skyye has been at the make-up and modeling game. “Fashion is my life,” she said. “I just love it.”
She does a lot of test work for photographers, often in swimwear or lingerie. “They usually like my work and invite me back.”
Skyye got into modeling because she considers herself “a girly girl.”
“It’s like being a girl-times-10,” she said.
This Hollis girl next door enjoys life in Queens, especially the pace that is slower than Manhattan. “For me, everything is convenient,” she said. “I’m close to all my family and my friends, too. I can go on Jamaica Avenue and walk slowly. My eye doctor is there. I can go shopping, get food, see my cousin – all by just walking a few blocks.”
This Fashion Institute of Technology grad looks back on her college days as an awakening for her current career. “It was the best thing in the world for me. It introduced me to so much,” she said.

| Pedro Martinez watches as Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez hurls a strike at Shea.
|
No, that’s not the New York Mets’ new starting pitcher. That’s Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez throwing out the first pitch at Shea Stadium back on June 4.
Escorted to the mound by Mets ace Pedro Martinez, who was born in the Dominican Republic, Fernandez waved his cap to the cheering crowd. Martinez meanwhile, being his usual gregarious self, did a small dance for photographers. With a hefty windup, Fernandez threw a 60-foot scorcher into the glove of catcher Mike Piazza.
Apparently, Fernandez’ visit to Shea brought good tidings as the Mets went on to triumph over the San Francisco Giants that afternoon by the score of 5-1. Martinez also seems to have been sprinkled with the good fortune brought by Fernandez as he pitched a two-hitter in his next start versus the Houston Astros, winning by the score of 3-1.
But Fernandez impressed with his hardball hurling skills, evoking a collective swoon from Shea fans. With usual starter Steve Trachsel on the shelf for nearly the whole season, maybe Willie Randolph should think about giving El Presidente a shot.

Spill His Guts
|
| John Leguizamo
|
John Leguizamo, out promoting his new movie The Honeymooners, almost had to miss a PR stop on the Tonight Show because of a pair of runny eggs.
He reportedly ate some undercooked eggs at a hotel and developed a case of food poisoning, causing him to consider canceling his appearance.
But Leguizamo, who grew tough on the street while living in Corona, went on like a trooper with host Jay Leno and spilled his guts without, well, spilling his guts.
Still sick during the interview, the always-irreverent Leguizamo turned his misfortune into a chance for humor. “Just burn the dressing room, that’s all you want to do,” he said on the air. “I didn’t know that all my orifices were so synchronized.”

Lucky Stiff?
42-year-old Fernando Castro should play the lottery.
According to published reports, Castro was on his way home from his job as a cook at Cacerola’s Restaurant in Woodhaven recently when he was struck on Broadway near Northern Blvd. by an FDNY ambulance. Then after two cars just missed hitting him, Castro was run over by a livery cab. He was conscious and telling his account just hours later.
He was pinned beneath the car and was rescued by firefighters. Castro was listed in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital and told reporters “I’m banged up.”

| Milana, local girl dreams big.

“The Scholar,” a new reality TV show on ABC that airs Monday nights, gives some of the best students in the U.S. the opportunity to compete for a college education from a top-rated school of their choice. A Fresh meadows girl is one of contestants.
High school seniors who might not otherwise have an opportunity to attend one of America’s top universities — will compete for a full scholarship, a prize that could be worth as much as $240,000.
Milana, a resident of Fresh Meadows, and student at the Bronx High School of Science, maintains 98.31 GPA and is fluent in Russian, English and Spanish.
She and the other contestants have to demonstrate excellence in the areas of academics, leadership, creativity and community service, while facing sudden-death oral exams defending themselves to an Ivy League scholarship committee.
Milana spends much of her free time doing stem cell research in the neurosurgery department of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, where her real passion flourishes. A true believer in the power of scientific discovery and advancement, Milana hopes to attend a renowned medical school and, in her own ambitious words, “find a cure for cancer.”

Go Ahead, Look Back
The upcoming documentary of one-time Queensite Bob Dylan by Queens native Martin Scorsese has had its July release date pushed back but PBS has confirmed it will definitely be coming to the small screen this fall.
Scorsese uses in large part footage from Dylan’s early rise as a New York City folk singer in 1961 to his motorcycle “accident” in Woodstock, in 1966. Also included are rare (and honest-to-God never-before-seen) clips of Dylan’s childhood, shots from the road and backstage, as well as unreleased interviews conducted over the past 15 years with big names of the times like the late Allen Ginsberg.
Dylan, whose first (of three) autobiographical installment Chronicles hit bookstore shelves to huge sales last year, also gives Scorsese his first full, televised interview in 15 years for the film. It airs Sept. 26 and 27 on PBS.
