Rookie From Elmhurst
|
|
Erica Minon
Home: Elmhurst
Age: 26
Height: 5’3"
Weight: 100 lbs.
Stats: 34-24-34
This “rookie” model is making a big impact on her native Elmhurst as well as the modeling world.
Erica Minon, works full time as a cardiovascular ultrasound technologist and does modeling in her spare time. A recent experience was modeling for a calendar entitled "Faces of Change," where more than 50 models were brought together to make a calendar with the proceeds going to benefit various organizations.
But it’s not all charity for Erica. For a slight fee, users of Motek Mobile, a Canadian cell phone service, can download hot images to their cell phones to use as wallpapers. Thanks to a recent partnering deal, her image will soon be available to U.S. Verizon and Cingular customers as well.
Erica said she was drawn into modeling by a friend, and fellow model. She was always told that she had the “looks, not the height,” but once she learned about the world of petite models; she decided to give it a try.
When Erica is not modeling or working she loves, “dancing with friends, and going to clubs.” She added “I love dancing to everything, I love music, and I’m learning how to play guitar.”
Around Queens Erica likes to hang in Astoria and Jackson Heights, and goes to the Queens Center Mall to shop. But her biggest hobby, besides dancing and shopping, is rescuing homeless animals. She says that she “loves all animals and my house is always filled with little critters.”
Her favorite thing about Queens is the “Diversity of the people,” she said, “there’s every restaurant, from Chinese to Indian right at my fingertips.”
Her advice to aspiring models is to be yourself and have confidence, because that’s the first thing that people look for, but most of all, “be careful, and never go alone to a photo shoot.”

| Republicans All In Bayside
|
| As GOP State Sen. Frank Padavan introduces Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the Mayor’s Bayside campaign offices, perennial Republican candidate Peter Boudouvas looks to see the exact length of Bloomberg coattails. Ira Cohen
|
The doors are open at Republican Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Queens campaign office, but not to everyone.
The campaign office is located on Bell Blvd., in Bayside, where fellow Republican Peter Boudouvas is looking to unseat Democrat Tony Avella. When asked if he would be operating from Bloomberg’s office, Boudouvas said it was too early to tell.
Riiiiight.
Who knows. But a quick glance inside the campaign office of the life-long Democrat turned Republican failed to spot a single poster or flier for any other Republican candidate.
Hmmm.

Dear Ron Jeremy
|
| Porn star Ron Jeremy
|
When facing a troubling problem, possibly about work or your personal life, doesn’t everyone ask themselves: What would Ron Jeremy do?
Well, if you don’t, you should, and if you do, then you could soon get an answer any time you want thanks to a new cell phone service soon to be offered in the UK.
With the service, called Dear Ron, users can send Jeremy video messages asking questions, of which he picks the best ones and responds, the answers coming on your cell phone from a digitalized animated character of the porn king himself.
Jeremy, a Flushing native, has already acquired equal measures of fame and infamy in the United States, but has recently become a fixture overseas after starring in an English television show “The Farm.” He holds the world record for appearance in adult films, having starred in more than 1,600.
Gurus, priests, and other spiritual advisers watch out, once you’ve gotten it straight from Ron Jeremy, it’s hard to go back.

Star Wars

| Star Wars Collision Works
|
Don’t be surprised if Han Solo and Chewbacca stop by in Springfield Gardens to get their Millennium Falcon repaired.
Apparently, the “Star Wars” crew set up shop with logo and all at 141-28 Springfield Blvd. to take care of any collisions our inferior road-bound craft may encounter while viewers watch the “Star Wars” series from Earth.
Star Wars Collision Works is open daily in case of emergency.
May the force be with you, and may George Lucas never find out.

Don’t Even Pretend

Peter “The Animal” Vallone Jr. is at it again, except it’s not low-life graffiti-spraying punks he’s after this time. The Councilman’s venom is directed at a bigger target this time . . . in Japan.
Atari is planning to release a new videogame, “Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.” The game allows graffiti artists to tag up and destroy property, and then hide from police.
“From what Atari’s putting out, it appears they want to make crime exciting and to teach children how to get away with breaking the law,” Vallone said. “I’m just glad they aren’t giving out cans of spray paint with this game.”
Politicians getting involved in video games is nothing new. Congressional pressure caused makers of “Grand Theft Auto” to upgrade their rating on the game to make it deemed for “mature” audiences.
Atari is the company that started the home video system industry in the early 80s. with favorites like Asteroids, Centipede and Dig Dug.
Wonder if Jr's dad Peter Vallone Sr. would have been so active against his son’s video game playing, citing the destruction of alien invaders, the mutilation of insects and the high-pressure exploding of mutants as gateways to real crime.
