Sixteen-year-old Richmond Hill resident Sandra Sevelkovaite is only 5-foot-4, but she said she is ready to stand tall in the modeling world. The blonde-haired, sweet-faced girl said it was her mom that got in front of the camera.

“My mom took me to take professional pictures,” said Sandra. After posting her first set of pictures on a website for aspiring models, a professional photographer contacted her.

And that’s okay with her.

“I love picture taking, its fun,” said the high school junior. The feeling of being in front of the camera is what keeps her going. “You feel good, sexy. I like attention. You’re the center of attention.”

When asked what she’d like to model, Sandra settled on the two styles most dear to her: sports and fashion. “Most days,” Sandra admitted, “I dress casual.” Her favorite colors to mix and match, she said, are black and pink.
Although coy about what she wears, the pint-sized model wasn’t shy about fashion no-no’s.

“Never follow what other people are wearing. Have your own style,” she said. “The Chinese slippers are a no-no, because everybody wears them and for $2, you can get them in any store.”

When asked what stores she does frequent, Sandra paused, and said she doesn’t shop all that much. In fact, for new clothes, she just turns to her old ones.

“If you have some old clothes, spice it up, be artistic,” she said enthusiastically. “Old jeans, I cut them and make them shorts and add a couple of hearts and stars.” Old clothes to work with are easy to find, she said.

If Sandra is handy with a sewing machine and scissors, check out what she does with a pen and paper. The high school junior sports a grade point average higher than most summer days: 97.83

“I want to go to a good college, I’m a very determined person,” she said. “If I get into Harvard, I want to study law. I’m pretty good in history, and government interests me.”

Government? Public office? Could Sandra be setting the political fashion of tomorrow?

Queens Triple Threat

"Assault on Precinct 13" opens in movie theaters this week, with three kids from Queens: (top, l-r) John Leguizamo of Corona and Ja Rule of Hollis; Drea De Matteo of College Point.

What do Ja Rule, John Leguizamo and Drea De Matteo have in common besides Queens? The new action film “Assault on Precinct 13,” a remake of the 1970s John Carpenter classic, which opens Jan. 19.

In the movie, a mob kingpin (Lawrence Fishburne) is captured and put on a bus along with a junkie named Beck (Leguizamo) and a street thug named Smiley (Rule), headed for jail. But a snowstorm causes the bus to be held up in Detroit, and emptied into the 13th Precinct, where Iris Ferry (De Matteo) works as a secretary. When word gets out that the mob boss is being held at an understaffed, snowed-in local precinct house during a New Year’s Eve snowstorm supporters stage an assault to free the criminals.

Let’s see…Drea De Matteo plays eye candy? Okay. Ja Rule plays a street hustler? No big shock there. But for Leguizamo, who launched into a tirade during one of his one-man shows about the only roles for Hispanic actors in Hollywood being pimps and junkies - tsk, tsk. We thought you knew better.

Happy Birthday Drea!

After getting whacked at the end of the fifth season of The Sopranos, Drea De Matteo, the College Point-born actress, who now stars on NBC’s Joey, should be blowing out her candles on Jan. 19th wishing for better ratings.
Joey has seen a steady decline since its premiere Sept. 9, dropping from 18.55 million viewers to its lowest to-date, 10.2 million three months later. Wishful thinking, but maybe Drea might be second guessing her Sopranos character going to the feds.

Dave Chappell Show Guy Loves Astoria

Chris Finnegan from Astoria

The funniest white guy on the Dave Chappell Show is a Queens resident who, according to our QConfidential sources, “LOVES living in Astoria.” Comedian Christian Finnegan may be most recognized as “Chad,” the timid, pushover in the Chappell sketched called “Mad Real World,” a spoof of the MTV reality show about what happens when “people stop acting polite, and start acting real.”

In the skit, Chad’s roommates ask the hapless Chad to move out after his new roommates sleep with his girlfriend and stab his dad. Hopefully, Finnegan’s real life roommates in Astoria aren’t too much like his roommates on-screen.

Ja Rules?

Guns blaze and controversy abound when Ja Rule is in town. In the early hours of December 27, 2004, Troy Moore, an ex-con, and William Clark were shot outside of Ja Rule’s after-Christmas party at the LQ club in New York City.

Clark died later that day at a local hospital. But the controversy doesn’t stop there. Moore’s older brother Tyran “Tata” Moore is being investigated by police for helping his long-time friend Irv Gotti -- no relation to the late Dapper Don -- founder of Murder Inc., fund his label with drug money.

All this came just one week after a fan was shot outside a Ja Rule afterparty in Peoria, Ill. So the next time you decide to check out this native Queens rapper, make sure you stay on your toes and ready to run.

GQ Man

Hollis' Russel Simmons

GQ “Man of the Year” Russell Simmons, who is also somewhat known for founding Def Jam Records, is getting back into the music business.

The hip hop mogul from Hollis is plotting a return to the industry with a new label, The Russell Simmons Music Group (RSMG).

Simmons reportedly already has several unnamed acts signed to the new label. Simmons, whose contract with Universal expired several months ago, has been in talks with executives at several of the major record labels.

It has been a good year for Simmons as he was inexplicably named Man of the Year at GQ Magazine. He shared the honor with the likes of actor Dustin Hoffman and others.
