Talk about a twist of good fate. Naomi, who’s half Polish and half Israeli, literally “stumbled” into her modeling career. When she worked as a make-up artist, she came to a test shoot for a cosmetics firm and met model Joanne Douglas, who suggested that Naomi try modeling.

A little over a year later, Naomi is one successful young woman. Her credits include numerous fine art shoots with some of the best photographers in the country, several clothing and makeup lines, extra parts in the new Stepford Wives and the new Lenny Kravitz video, and the risqué position of a body paint model for a Vox Vodka event.

Naomi, who loves music and never quit her day job in production for a music label, knows how to get the gigs.

“You have to work hard to get anywhere. There’s a million models out there, you have to make yourself stand out,” she said. “If I have a goal, I’m going to go for it”
Naomi enjoys her career. While she learned first hand exactly how hard the work is, she never lost her love of the artistic.

“I like being creative. I love the people I’m meeting. And I like the money I’m making,” she said.

The success, however, has not changed her mind about living in Queens, or partying at Martini’s, one of her favorite clubs.

“I love Forest Hills,” she admitted. “Before, I’ve never lived anywhere for over two years, and I’ve been here for six now.”

Dina Meyer

Local girl Dina Meyer has not had much visibility since her performance as an ass-kicking, planet-hopping army private Dizzy Flores in Paul Verhoeven’s “Starship Troopers” seven years ago. This is about to change with the highly hyped Halloween-season horror flick “Saw,” in which Meyer is playing one of the leading roles. The movie is already drawing rave reviews from both critics and audiences in the U.S. and Canada.

SuperSeinfeld

Queens College grad Jerry Seinfeld is playing Good Samaritan to Richmond’s River District Alliance and Central Virginia Foodbank. He has donated all proceeds from his Sept. 3 performance at Richmond Virginia's Landmark Theatre to the organizations.

Seinfeld will be helping provide relief from the floods.

According to sources, the funny man didn’t think twice about handing over the donations.

Guess he’s somewhat like his idol, Superman, after all.

Second Career Painter

The name of Tony Bennett, a child of Astoria, associates for the majority of Americans with his soft, slightly husky baritone accompanying the tunes that long have become the staple of the upscale lounge culture. Far fewer know that Bennett is also an accomplished painter, having been producing and selling still life, celebrity portraits and landscapes in oil since 1977. One of his more famous works is a portrait of another legendary crooner, Frank Sinatra, which was part of The National Arts Club’s exhibit in November 1997.

Bennett’s obvious musical talent aside, why is his painting career mostly ignored outside the artistic community? Could it be because he produced his oils under his given name—Anthony Benedetto? Sounds like as good a guess as any.

Mr Cheeks, Back Again

Pictured on two albums, Queens native Terrence Kelly is "Back Again"

Queens native Terrance Kelly, a.k.a. Mr. Cheeks to his hip-hop fans, always knew he wanted to be a recording artist.

“When I was little, I used to look at Michael Jackson and I knew I had to be a part of that life,” Kelly said. “I did the day jobs and all that but I wanted to be a star. That was my goal.”

“I weighed my options when I was in school,” he added. “I tried sports and everything, but the grades weren’t there.

I wasn’t digging school like that. I got my GED and went about just trying to grow up.”

Instead, he said, he ended up behind bars.

“I was in jail when Kris Kross was doing the ‘jumpin’ and all that and I was like, ‘I got to get in the game’.”

And he did just that. His latest album, titled “Back Again,” marks the 10th anniversary of Mr. Cheeks’ successful presence on the hip-hop and R&B scene.
