Models Of Queens: Elle!
|
|
Elle Santangelo Home: Astoria Age: 19 Height: 5’ 9" Weight: 115 lbs Stats: 32-24-33
For the last three months, this Astoria beauty has been taking a serious crack at modeling.
This aspiring actress said she wants to focus her career on her acting talent, but has no plans on giving up her love for the camera.
“I’ve done a lot of print and editorial,” Elle said. She has also worked in showrooms, done some promo work and participated in a number of student films.
Though she had an agent when she started out, she dropped him and now said the best exposure she has gotten so far in her career is at onemodelplace.com. “It works wonders for me,” she said.
Being part of a modeling community has allowed her the opportunity to network, meeting a good variety of people in the industry.
Though she doesn’t currently have an agent, the networking “has allowed me to meet people and see who I feel comfortable with.”
Though Elle has only lived in Astoria for the last few months, she already has a favorite hangout, just down the street from her Steinway Street apartment – Dunkin’ Donuts. “I’m addicted to their coffee,” she said. As for Astoria overall? “It’s got a lot of great shops. I like it a lot,” she said, adding, “and the rent’s a lot cheaper.”
Looking to the future, Elle sees herself as an actress, and is glad she is taking the time at a young age to get foot in the door. “Now is the time to do it,” she said. And her dark secret about how she spends her free time? “I’m a huge computer nerd,” she admitted, mentioning that she has a PC for gaming and a Mac for design. “Most people wouldn’t know that.”

Digibeat Jett
|
| Joan Jett challenges iPod!
|
Former Queens resident Joan Jett is still playing gigs in her newest business venture, but not the kind you’d expect. The once-mulleted maven of rock n’ roll has cut a deal – and her hair – to endorse a new line of iPod alternatives recently put to market by Toshiba. She hosted an April 12 launch party for the portable player, called the Toshiba digibeat, in Wayne, N.J.
Jett, 46, garnered attention during her teens as lead guitarist and main songwriter for pioneering all-female punk band The Runaways, but it was with her current band, the Blackhearts, she recorded the 1981 hit “I Love Rock N’ Roll.” In the late 80s she began another career as an actress, starring in films like Light of Day with Michael J. Fox, to critical acclaim. In recent years, she has starred as Columbia in a Broadway production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The digital players, designed to compete with Apple’s iPod Photo, hold between 10 and 60 GB of music, images, or movies, and retail from about $280 to $450.

| STUCK ON ROSES? Cheap roses eastbound by the L.I.E. Main St exit.
|
Just down the street from Cedar Grove Cemetery is a flower store with its front on Horace Harding Expressway and its back to the graveyards.
It’s visible from the Eastbound LIE near Main St., and there is a huge sign outside advertising the good deals within. “Rose’s,” reads the top line, “$6.99 Doz.,” reads the next, but most noticeable is the lowest line, “We’re Sick.”
Do people who work in the shop have the flu? Its close proximity to the cemetery evoked many different kinds of sickness, both floral and human.
But one florist explained it this way. “Like, the owner’s sick,” she said, rolling her eyes and wrapping roses, “to sell them for that cheap.”

News Fight?
Gunfire on the streets of New York....the publicity and problem solving method recently employed by Jamaica’s platinum selling rapper 50 Cent was rebuffed by a columnist from the Daily News recently, whose company has its own high-profiled rivalry.
Days before 50 released his sophomore album, his entourage exchanged gunfire with another rapper’s posse. Nobody was seriously hurt, and 50’s album sold millions.
As for columnist Errol Louis, he doesn’t think that sort of thing will work for him. He told a radio host recently that “If I got into a shoot-out with someone from the New York Post," he told a radio host recently "I’m not getting put on the front page.”
Why would you?

Candy Shop
The unbearable-sounding ring tones that people download onto their cell phones via the Internet are now actually being ranked by Billboard magazine.
And who else but Jamaica’s own 50 Cent could top that chart? 50’s hit single “Candy Shop” is currently number one on the “Hot Ringtones” chart in Billboard magazine. In case there is anyone that hasn’t heard the song yet, don’t worry because odds are if you’ve heard a phone ringing recently, it was probably his tune.
Can you hear him now?

Doesn’t Add Up
His mom is a teacher, and he lives in Queens. But there is something about Queens Congressman Anthony Weiner’s biography that doesn’t add up.
During a recent mayoral forum, Weiner revealed that he not only attended Brooklyn Tech as a teenager, but failed math his sophomore year.
Just for the record, the subject his mother taught for more than thirty years was…math.
Go figure.
Meeks' Party
Apparently good news does not travel fast. Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-St. Albans), who served as a co-chair in John Kerry’s presidential campaign, was recently referred to as a Republican.
The Malay Mail in its April 13 issue wrote, “In fact, United States Republican Gregory Meeks introduced a bill commending the empowerment of Malaysian women in observance of Women’s History Month last month.”
So much for standing beside Democrat John Kerry.
