Ciara Pilgrim, a native of Jamaica, has big plans for the future. This 24-year-old Binghamton biology major said, “I feel like I can do multiple things at once.”

“Whichever path . . . as long as I’m happy, that’s all that matters,” said Ciara.

She plans to model while young, and according to her, if it’s not working out, she'll write books.

I like to write,” said Ciara. “Mostly science fiction, fantasy, horror – anything from that genre.”

Ciara’s modeling resume glimmers with three fashion shows, including House of Nye and Cartel Line, both urban couture companies, and a Mothers Against Guns (MAG) benefit fundraiser.

As a result of going away to college, this beautiful intellectual has many friends spread out over the East Coast . She does, however, go back to her roots in Jamaica, where she lived for 12 years, to go shopping in Jamaica Center.

When Ciara spends time alone she finds herself reading books like Anne Rice’s vampire series, including her favorite book Interview With A Vampire. She also reads the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series and The Lord of the Rings series by JRR Tolkien.

“I like the modern sexier [vampires],” explained Ciara. “They are portrayed as seductive and mysterious.”
And, don’t be fooled by Ciara’s miniscule waistline because this babe loves to nosh down on Italian food occasionally. But she does try to eat healthy on a regular basis and exercises every other day for about a half hour.

Usually, the hustling bustling hallways of Queens high schools are filled with gossip, laughter and complaints about homework.

Usually, they’re not filled with the sounds of “Strawberry Fields Forever.”

But the weekend of Feb. 6 wasn’t a usual weekend.
It marked the 40th anniversary of The Beatles landing on American soil, and a teacher at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School decided to honor it by playing Beatles tunes throughout the school.

On Friday, Feb. 6 and Monday, Feb. 9, the sounds of “Hey Jude,” “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Good Day Sunshine,” “All You Need Is Love,” “Eleanor Rigby,” and “A Hard Day’s Night” rocked the hallways of the school thanks to Technology Coordinator Dr. Rhonda Weissman.
Talk about schoolhouse rock!

What's In A Name?

NY Dem Congresswoman Carolyn - you say Maloney & I'll say McCarthy!

For Newsday, Queens just can’t seem to make the cut – on one topic, anyway.

In an article describing Queens development, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney was described as “D-Mineola.” Yes, she’s a Democrat, but she definitely doesn’t represent Mineola. It appears the New York bureau of the Long Island paper mixed her up with fellow Dem Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, a lifelong Mineola resident.

Maloney’s district covers the Upper West Side of Manhattan and about a third of it includes 200,000 plus people in Western Queens.

The paper caught the error though, and ran a correction describing Maloney as “D-Manhattan.” True, but the story was on Queens – why can’t Maloney be described as being “D-Queens”?

Strange.

Split Personality

While Jet Li is beating up bad guys on screen, his lookalike counterpart Councilman John Liu is making big things happen across Queens.

The two men share the same initials and winning smile, as well as some similar qualities.

Jet Li could kill a man with two fingers. John Liu can kill a bill with one hand. Jet Li can climb up walls. John Liu sends opponents up the wall. Jet Li kicks butt. John Liu voted to kick butts out of restaurants. Jet Li can break a chair with his foot. John Liu puts his foot down as Transportation chair.

Oh yes, their charms . . .
