Lovely Rita

Rita Wang Fresh Meadows
Age: 24
Height 5’8
Weight: 110
Stats: 34-24-34

When Rita Wang of Fresh Meadows isn’t busy studying political science or history at St. John’s University, she is pursuing a modeling career as part of product promotional campaigns and advertisements.

Her past work includes ads for Slim Fast and Diet Coke, but the 22-year-old originally from Utah said school is her main focus.

She missed out a chance to do runway work at last year’s NYC Fashion Week because of a class conflict. School is her main priority, especially since she only got involved in modeling when she 18 after a friend suggested it.

Rita enjoys hanging out at restaurants on Jamaica Avenue and bars like Sly Fox near St. John’s. After moving from Utah, she loves the excitement and diversity of our fast-paced borough.

“I think Queens is cool because it has a lot of different neighborhoods,” she said. “When I lived in Utah… it’s totally different; it was very homogeneous. Queens is very interesting to me.”

She hopes to eventually get an exclusive agent who can get her better jobs, but for now, she chooses brains over beauty.

“I study a lot,” she said.

Walken’ 2008

Is this Queens guy running for President?

With the onslaught of rumors surrounding the 2008 presidential election, it doesn’t seem all that shocking that Queens' very own Christopher Walken be added to the list of potential candidates. After all, Ronald Reagan made the successful actor-to-president transition in 1981. A series of official-looking Web sites like www.walkenforpres.com and www.walken2008.com have popped up in cyber space, fueling impassioned debates among fans, bloggers, and gossipmongers.

Alas, it’s a big hoax. Walken’s publicist, Mara Buxbaum, confirmed that Walken is not running for prez, and attributed these websites to a fan who took Walken’s role as a Cabinet secretary in “Wedding Crashers” a little too seriously.

Case of The Missing Book

Sure, the new borough guide, “Queens, What to Do, Where to Go (and How Not to Get Lost) in New York’s Undiscovered Borough,” is pretty nifty, but the Tribune’s copy got lost on its way here—or perhaps was never sent.

The Tribune recently wrote a chunky-sized piece on the new navigational read, and besides never receiving a complimentary copy of the book, the author Ellen Freudenheim actually suggested we go to Barnes and Noble ourselves to check it out. Freudenheim, an established writer with her name already penned to several books, called to make sure we wrote a review, but seemingly “forgot” to ask if we wanted a guide for our reference library. Next time she wants a review, she better shell out the $17.95.

Ellen, we're still waiting for the book!

Panty War

Rosie O’Donnell has been making tabloid headlines again with her riveting and recurring commentary about Britney Spears’ panty faux pas on “The View.” The Bayside native was so offended by Brit’s brazen baring that she offered her a pair of her own oversized underwear.

Now, Rosie’s undergarments are on public display. Ebay is auctioning off an XL teddy that Rosie wore while filming “Exit to Eden.” Bidding started at $250, but has already snaked up to $304, so move quickly if you want a piece of Rosie’s boudoir.

Most Annoying Money?

Queens native Donald Trump is one of the nominees for the “Most Annoying Money Personality.” Visitors to bloggingstocks.com are invited to cast votes for the most annoying rich person.

Bloggingstocks.com claimed The Donald has been a leading contender for the most annoying money personality crown “for decades now.”

“He is recognized by his usual squint, pursed lips, and that distinctive comb-over, which has been the subject of humor by many comedians, and it’s a nominee in another category of the Best & Worst 2006,” according to bloggingstocks.com.

That other category is the Worst Signature Style.

Bloggingstocks.com described Trump’s “lifelong habit” of naming things after himself like the Trump Tower and Trump Plaza, Trump menswear collection, bottled water, vodka, a magazine, an ice cream parlor, and Trump University, and a business school founded in 2005 as “a source of irritation.”

Other nominees in the Most Annoying Money Personality are Mark Cuban, Jim Cramer and Suze Orman.

Armadillo Eats

Just when you thought your favorite wild critter could only be found in Queens up in your shoe closet or purse drawer, apparently you can serve it for dinner, according to the NYC Health Dept. which found armadillo delicacies in a Queens market last week.

The “12 beefy armadillo” special advertised in Queens became part of the City’s crackdown on exotic animal dishes that come from unknown and potentially contaminated sources. From a pile of iguana meat in Brooklyn, to cow organs in Manhattan, to turtles and frogs found at one Queens ethnic eatery, inspectors had a feast day with the barrows of bizarre meat found around the boroughs.

Through September of this year, state officials uncovered 1.6 million pounds of icky food – a move that probably has Upton Sinclair cheering from his grave.
