Ciani Je T’Aime Harper
Home: Flushing
Age: 25
Height: 5’1"
Weight: 105 lbs
Stats: 34B-25-35
As her name suggests (Je t’aime is French for ‘I love you’), Ciani has a lot of love to give. A singer, dancer and model, Ciani’s main love is her boyfriend, whom she sometimes refers to as “partner.” After all, he is the reason that she left Harlem for Flushing.
“I’m not a club hopper,” she admits, preferring instead some movies with her boyfriend in the neighborhood. “It’s very peaceful in this area.”
With a degree in Communications and a minor in Dance, Ciani has had a lot of experience singing in choirs and dancing. She’s had some small parts in a number of movies, but her true passion, as of late, is modeling.
“I’m a spotlight person. I love to do the photo shoots and the runways,” she says.
Ciani has modeled hair, makeup and clothing for over a dozen designers, but still feels like a newbie. Her goal is to be picked up by a modeling scout who will “truly feel” her passion and purpose.
On a day off, which is not often considering that she works full time as an artist’s assistant, she likes to hang out with her girlfriends in Jamaica. But once in a while she lets loose.
“The key word is Bootylicious,” she says of her dress style on a night out. Her main influences, for life and dress are Naomi Campbell, Aaliyah, Alicia Keys and her two older sisters.
Her favorite spot to show off her style is Club Remi in Astoria, where she took part in a runway show a few months ago.

| Queens Girls on an Amazing Race!
|
Two Queens ladies team up for a chance at $1 million as one of the teams selected for the next “Amazing Race” adventure.
Maria Sampogna and her best friend, Meredith Tufaro, both 26, will have to go around the world, covering 75,000 miles by plane, boat, horse and possibly dog sled, if the last show is any indication, against 10 other teams.
Season Six is expected to debut Nov. 16 and, because of the success of the show, parent company CBS may move the series to prime time. When TV Guide prematurely released the names of the contestants, it listed occupations for each of the other contestants. For the Queens team, it just said that girls like to laugh and that their strategy is to kill them with kindness — in a reality TV series.
Both girls are single. Maira is listed as a sales assistant and Meredith as a licensing manager. The both say the toughest thing about being away from home is that they will miss friends and family.
This is the second time a team hails from Queens - in season two, the second-place finishers were also from Queens, and the show’s finale was at the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park.

Local Inspiration
|
| Far Rock's Nancy Lieberman
|
She may not be as well known as Magic Johnson, Rick Pitino, Phil Jackson or Pat Riley, but the women basketball legend and Far Rockaway High School product Nancy Lieberman is keeping company with these sports luminaries on the list of people most sought after as inspirational speakers at graduation ceremonies, seminars and other special events, according to All-American Speakers, a Dix Hills, Long Island-based booking agency.
Lieberman, who made the first-ever Women’s national basketball team as a 15-year-old phenom, and at 18 became the youngest basketball player ever to win an Olympic medal—silver, in Montreal in 1976 — has been general manager and coach of WNBA Detroit Shock since 1998. Interestingly enough, her booking fee is not even listed on the All-American Speakers’ website. Could she really be that expensive? Phil Jackson and Pat Riley, for example, pull in over $50,000 per engagement.

Happy Silver Anniversary
|
| Bob and Harvey Weinstein
|
As Hollywood institutions, Queens natives Harvey and Bob Weinstein are turning 25.
Miramax Films, which this week celebrated its silver anniversary, has made the Flushing-bred brothers two of the most respected - and hated - men in Hollywood while at the same time re-defining the independent film industry.
The Weinsteins, known for their outspoken, flamboyant personalities, have produced some of the most influential films of the last decade including “sex, lies and videotape,” “Pulp Fiction,” and, more recently, Michael Moore’s controversial documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Over the last quarter-century, Miramax, dubbed, “the little company that could,” has come to be worth more than $1.5 million.
“These guys are not just executives; they are lifers — they created the company,” said director Kevin Smith, whose low-budget debut film, “Clerks” was distributed by Miramax in 1994. “They put their name on (a film) and it means something to them. I haven’t met their ilk in any other places in the business.”

Astrological Irony
|
| Howard Stern & Rush Limbaugh.
|
If asked directly, the borough’s child Howard Stern would probably deny that he has anything in common with Rush Limbaugh, the no-less flamboyant on-air personality on the other side of the political spectrum. The two may not be aware of the fact that they share the same birth date. Limbaugh was born on Jan. 12, 1951. Stern came into the world on the same day, three years later.
Rush and Howard may not have anything in common when it comes to politics, but, as fellow Capricorns, they share one character trait common to this sign: ambition.

The Musical?
|
| Jerry Springer
|
Former Cincinnati mayor with Queens roots, widely known for his outrageous talk show, Jerry Springer has become such an iconic personality in the United Kingdom recently. So, the Brits decided to turn him… into a play.
Entitled “Jerry Springer—The Musical,” the play is playing at the National Theatre and Cambridge Theatre and regularly draws rave reviews, despite the somewhat unpalatable subject matter.
“It will offend many, but I think it’s the most innovative and enjoyable musical I’ve ever seen,” one critic commented.
