Just Starting Out
|
|
Debbie-Jean’s life on the runway started at her church.
In order to raise money for a new computer, the church put together a fashion show fundraiser and Debbie-Jean walked the catwalk for the first time.
Impressing her friends who model, Debbie-Jean was talked into perhaps trying some modeling shots for work in print and commercials.
“I said why not,” she said.
Calling on photographer Nick Beneduce, of Ozone Park, the Far Rockaway beauty snapped some photos to use in her portfolio.
Since then, she has walked the catwalk a second time for a Brooklyn College AIDS fundraiser.
“I just love playing dress up is what it is,” she said.
When not focusing on her budding modeling career, Debbie-Jean is taking nursing classes at Queensborough Community College.
“Modeling is my backup,” she joked.
Debbie-Jean also has a bit of a designer gene in her as she is always modifying her clothes.
“I love to cut up old clothes and make them into different things.”
Debbie-Jean is also a self-diagnosed shopaholic, which is why you might find her on Jamaica Avenue if not in the movie theater checking out the latest release from Hollywood.

| Queens Funny Man

Queens’ one-man-comedy factory is at it again this week.
In his latest effort Pineapple Express, writer-director-producer Judd Apatow’s teamed up once again with Seth Rogan after the duo’s pair of blockbusters, Knocked Up and Superbad, established them as a force of comedy.
The new film, dubbed an action-comedy, follows two stoners, played by Rogan and Spiderman star James Franco, on the road as they flee from a drug lord and crooked cop after witnessing a murder.
Apatow has become a driving force in the Hollywood comedy scene. He’s produced and directed multiple successes over the last three years, including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Each of the films grossed more than $100 million, bringing in staggering profits for what is typically low budget work and making him a studio darling.
Apatow is already at work on his next film, Funny People. He’ll take the director’s chair for his third time for the film which will star Rogan alongside Adam Sandler.

Peter Vallone Jr. As The Joker
|
| Submissions in an online magazine contest to compare Peter Vallone Jr's crimefighting ways to the Joker.
|
Animal New York, an online humor magazine is running a contest poking fun at Queens own Peter Vallone Jr.
The Queens Councilman who agreesively chairs the Council's Public Safety Committee is their target because of his stands against quality of Life crimes.
The headline hungry magazine is hoping to make a splash by literally demonizing Pete Jr. for his war on graffiti and the like.
The contest reads: “Although the Joker is truly frightening and a total psychopath terrorist in the new Dark Knight movie, the real life villain of Gotham is Peter Vallone Jr., the anti-constitutional legislation penning NYC councilman. He’s become a menace to all freedom loving New Yorkers: artists, dog lovers and whoever else he decides to target next. So we decided to highlight his villainy with a giveaway.”
Pubic figures are targets for ridicule, but is Vallone’s anti-graffiti crusade and pro-pooper-scooper dog laws deserving of comparison to the Joker’s crazed scheming?
And who is the Dark Knight?

Casting Call
After shooting closed down the streets of Astoria during the first weekend of August, The NBC show “Lipstick Jungle” searched for extras to play in its Halloween special the following week.
A listing on the Internet bulletin board Craig’s List sought extras for a Halloween party scene. Taping was done Aug. 12 and those seeking fame were asked to bring their own costumes under the condition to avoid character costumes such as Star Wars, Batman, Superman et al.
The show is based of the book of the same name by Candace Bushnell and profiles three New York women and their rollercoaster lives.
Halloween costume suggestion: a Lipstick Jungle, whatever that is.
