For Jana, getting into modeling was as easy as making a rap video.

“I had a friend who brother is a big hip hop artist, so we used to go to all the music video shoots,” she said. “I met a few people who had clothing lines, and they asked me to do some modeling.”

These on-set meetings led this Forest Hills Gardens native gal head-first into the business. “I did a little runway here and there – you, know, they would do the fall look, I would walk down the runway and show it off.”

From there she did a few videos, and from hanging out and going to clubs she got to meet her manager, who has handled her career for the last three years.

Jana grew up in the Gardens, but now has her own place in Rego Park. “I moved to the city for a while, but I’ve got a great place now – it used to be my grandmother’s – and its only $800 a month for two bedrooms.”

This slender gal has dropped some weight recently in hopes of stepping up into slightly higher fashion.

“I’m trying to get signed into Elite [Model Agency],” she said. “I know you have to be 5-foot-8, but I’m hoping they take me.”

Jana, who went to the Kew Forest School and Forest Hills High School, enjoys the nightlife in Manhattan though she admits two major Queens weaknesses – Pio Bello’s on Austin Street and the Cheesecake Factory.

Next time we’re going to have what she’s having.

Ugly War

The celebrity war of words got ugly between Queens natives (l-r) Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump and his handling of Miss USA (bottom).

So we’ve all heard the news by now. 21-year-old Miss USA Tara Conner gets to keep her tiara thanks to Donald Trump who decided to give her a second chance. However, a certain TV host thinks the Donald is in no position to grant anyone forgiveness.

Rosie O’Donnell said on ABC’s “The View” that Trump is an irresponsible businessman who ran his father’s company into bankruptcy. She mimicked the Donald’s comb over and called him a philanderer who cheated on both his wives.

“What is he the moral authority? He has no business letting Miss USA keep her crown. He left the first wife – cheated on her. Left the second wife – cheated on her.”

Needless to say Big Daddy got upset and threatened to sue Rosie and have one of his friends steal her lesbian lover, TV executive Kelli Carpenter.

“I’m worth billions of dollars, and I have to listen to this fat slob?” Trump retaliated. “I could sue her for lots of money. When I saw the tape, I said, ‘You’d better be careful or I’ll send one of my friends over to take your girlfriend!’” Trump told the Daily News. “I imagine it would be pretty easy to take her girlfriend away, considering how Rosie looks.”

So far no court documents have been filed.

Where’s they learn to fight?

Rosie was born in Bayside and Trump was raised in Jamaica Estates.

Nas Flies High Long Island City's Nas

The New York Post’s Page Six reports that hip-hop artist Nas admitted to “flying high” during many of his early recording sessions for his recently released CD, “Hip Hop is Dead.”

The rapper, who grew up in the Queensbridge housing projects in Long Island City, celebrated the release of his new album with an intimate dinner party at Gin Lane hosted by the cognac company, Hennesy Paradis. According to Page Six, Nas told guests—including wife Kelis, Mark Wahlberg and Miki Howard—that he was under the influence while recording the CD.

“Hennesy is responsible for at least my first three albums, so all of this makes sense,” he said. Cheers!

Al Roker By Al Roker

In addition to predicting the weather, being a TV and screen personality and auther, the versitile Al Roker penned this cartoon.

St. Albans homeboy Al Roker plays himself on the big screen in the Christmas comedy “Unaccompanied Minors.” Roker has appeared in a number of other movies including “Fat Albert and The Proud Family.”

The weatherman is also a best selling author. His books Don’t Make Me Stop This Car: Adventures in Fatherhood and Al Roker’s Big Bad Book of Barbecue are New York Times bestsellers.

Merger

Astoria witnessed the merger of two outstanding legal entities last week at at St. Catherine and St. George Greek Orthodox Church when Clare Cusack an associate at the Manhattan office of the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius wed Michael Gianaris an attorney serving as Assemblyman representing the 36th AD from Queens and Finance Chair of the NYS Democratic Party.

Cool Trip

Queens is sending a representative to the land of penguins and mile-thick ice, as Astoria high-schooler Anthoula Lelekidis will be traveling to Antarctica next year as a part of the Students on Ice program.

Students on Ice sends students on a two week trip to the seventh continent each December. The trip highlights the beauty and fragility of the natural world, in the hopes that returning students will take an active role in helping preserve the nearly uninhabitable continent.

Lelekidis was nominated for the trip by U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney.

“Anthoula is a very talented young woman and I’m delighted that she’ll have this extraordinary opportunity,” Maloney said.

Bring us back a penguin.
