Jenny From Our Block
|
|
Jenny
Home: Forest Hills
Age: 21
Height: 5’ 7"
Weight: 105 lbs
Stats: 34-25-34
This Asian beauty may have only recently decided to try her hand at modeling, but she is confident that she has what it takes to make the big time with either one her looks or her music.
Jenny, who originally hails from Los Angeles (via Charlottesville, Va.) not only has the looks for success, but is an accomplished Pop/R&B singer/songwriter.
“Right now I’m recording new material; I just got done a few days ago,” Jenny said in a recent interview. “I’m just putting my foot in the water and trying things out. I’m not totally sure what I’m going to do.”
The modeling is very new for Jenny. “I had gotten some suggestions that I should go into modeling, being that I’m Asian and kinda tall, it’s a rare thing, and agencies are a little lenient on height rules for an Asian model.”
Though being in front of a camera is new, the songwriting goes back far in Jenny’s life. “I’ve been singing since I was 6 or 7,” she said. “It’s just something I’ve been doing all my life.”
Jenny moved to Queens just over four years ago when she signed with a music and production company. That deal fell apart, but she has kept at it and enjoys spending her down time hanging out on Austin Street.
“Forest Hills is the most beautiful place in New York City,” she said. “It’s just a great area.”
Maybe she’ll write a song about it. We’d love to see the cover art.

| Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC
|
Darryl McDaniels, better known as DMC of the pioneering Hollis rap group Run-DMC, has been selected to serve on the education advisory board for the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, which inducted him into its hallowed hall in its first class last year.
Joining him on the advisory committee will be Carole and Paula from the children’s 1970s TV show “the Magic Garden,” singer Steve Burns (who heads up music for the TV show “Blue’s Clues”) and Dan Zanes, the former Del Fuegos singer who won a Grammy last year for his Children’s album “Catch That Train.”
We wonder if hanging out with people who make kiddie music is going to keep DMC “Tougher Than Leather.”

Rachel Ray Bitten By Dog
|
| Rachel Ray and Isaboo
|
Even though the Parks Department has decided to allow dogs to frolic off-leash in City parks, some civic associations — Juniper Park, in particular — have been fighting to keep dogs leashed. Now it seems that all of the hubbub surrounding the off-leash laws in City parks may not go away anytime soon.
Food Network star and former Queens resident Rachael Ray was attacked by a dog in Union Square Park last Saturday while defending her pit-bull mix, Isaboo.
“This dog came up — there was no owner in sight — and became aggressive,” Ray’s rep told the Post. “Rachael and some others shooed it away, but it came back and attacked Isaboo.”
There were other dogs involved and one bit Ray on the leg. She was checked out by a nurse in the park and pronounced fine.
For the girl who once left New York because she was mugged, we hope this dog incident doesn’t scare her away again.

Cool J & 50 Making Cents
|
| Two Kids from Queens: LL Cool J and 50 Cent
|
Two Queens homeboys, LL Cool J and 50 Cent, will be representing two separate popular brands. Cool J will be the lip for Chapstick, while 50 Cent will appear in a new nationwide print campaign for Whitestone-based Glaceau Vitaminwater.
The negotiations are part of a brand extension strategy for artists LL Cool J and 50 Cent, which is being launched by Violator Artist Management.
According to trade mag Brand Week, both LL and Fitty are seeking to leverage their popularity as celebrities, through various endorsement deals.
“It’s an obvious fit. LL has been licking his lips for 20 years,” Brand Week reported. “They’ll get to speak to people who normally would not pick up Chapstick.”
Cool J is also seeking to endorse a vitamin supplement to capitalize on his popularity in the fitness/training market, since his book "LL Cool J’s Platinum Body" hit stores late last year.
Fitty will also release a new energy drink this year, following the debut of his grape flavored Vitaminwater energy drink, Formula 50.
50 is also executive producing LL Cool J’s 13th album, "Exit 13," which hits stores in May. His own album “Before I Self Destruct” is slated to hit stores in June.

| Jumbo Jet coming to JFK Airport
|
Hey, JetBlue, here’s a plane passengers may not mind sitting in for 10 hours on the runway: the super jumbo A380, branded the world’s largest commercial jet.
Even better, it’s scheduled to make a grandiose landing and first appearance in the U.S. at JFK airport March 19. Of course, LAX-ers are jealous, so Airbus Industries scheduled for another A380 to simultaneously touch ground in L.A.
No word yet on the price of a seat on one these flying cities, but we can bet powering the plane will make OPEC very happy.

Creepy Role?
|
| Walken
|
The Osbournes may have been one of the highest rated reality shows on MTV for some time, but that didn’t make it easier to understand patriarch Ozzy Osbourne with his often-slurred speech and his heavy Brit accent.
Now, however, Ozzy’s going to sound like pure poetry, thanks to Queens born Christopher Walken.
Walken, according to a report on ABCnews.com, has agreed to play the mumbly British rocker in a film about Motley Crue, based on the autobiography by the band itself.
“How funny is that going to be?” asked Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil in an interview.
With any luck, the Astoria native won’t have to participate in any Osborne bat or bird biting for the role, but with those method actors, you never can tell.
