Hyacinth In Bloom

Cassandra Hyacinthe is not modeling now, but she is very interested in the business and wants to break in big.

She took classes in modeling and completed a program at the Barbizon School in uptown Manhattan to prepare herself. There instructors taught her how to apply makeup, walk on the runway, appear in photo shoots and commercials.

“I have been trying for a couple of years to get into the business,” she said. “I just started again sending out profiles and trying to get some modeling work.”

If she begins to get more work, Cassie would love to become a full-time model, but now sees the gig as “just a part-time job.”

She is not caught up in trying to live a glamorous lifestyle, if major success comes then it will be welcome, if not she will be fine.

“It’s more part-time now, but if it becomes a full-time job, ok.”

It’s not all work for her, she likes to go out and “hang with friends, bowl and go to movies.”

In Queens she tends to chill in Jamaica and likes to visit Linden and Springfield Boulevard.

Cassandra says she enjoys Queens very much, as she lives just over the Nassau County border. “I like the environment and the people,” she said. “It’s not dead, it’s very lively.”

What's Old Is New Again

Sex and The City, the movie was partially shot at LIC's Silvercup Studios

“Sex and the City” is back. And so are the fans. The feature-length film, which is based on the HBO television series, hits theatres last weekend.

The location where the movie was partially shot, Long Island City’s Silvercup Studios, fits nicely with the theme of “What’s old is new again.” Silvercup, once a bread factory, was resurrected in the early 80s and transformed into a fully-equipped studio.

Sex and the City may be back – and Silvercup Studios might have received a facelift – but the cast members aren’t getting any younger. Cynthia Nixon, at 42, is the youngest of the bunch.

Waning Willie

Mets GM Omar Minaya and Mananger Willie Randolph

It looks like woeful Willie Randolph will remain the manager of the moribund Mets, at least for a little while longer.

“He’s the manager and I hope he is our manager for many years to come,” Omar Minaya, general manager of the team, told the New York Post.

But things didn’t seem quite so sunny earlier this month when Randolph and Minaya had a three-hour meeting with team owners. The Mets lost five straight after defeating the Yankees during interleague play and had a losing record for May.

Rather than Randolph’s employee status, Minaya said the topic of discussion focused on comments Randolph made to the Record of Hackensack, where he said the criticism he was receiving as manager had racial underpinnings and that he was not fairly portrayed by SNY during games.

The Mets have the second most expensive payroll in the league at $137,793,376 and hover around fourth place in the National League East.

Weiner & Huma Sitting In A Tree

It looks more like love than politicking for Rep. Anthony Weiner and Hillary Clinton advisor Huma Abedin.

The Queens congressman and the voluptuous Clinton body person have been spotted canoodleing at intimate dinners for several months and just last week Weiner accompanied the Clinton Camp to Puerto Rico.

“I’m doing a lot, but it’s largely because I’m dating Huma.” Weiner told the AP about his trip to Latin America.

The duo could make quite a powerful tag team if Weiner’s New York mayoral ambitions are realized. Plus with Barack Obama almost wrapping up the Democratic nomination for president, Huma might need something or someone new to keep her busy.

Ja Rules

JaRule was born Jeffrey Atkins

What do you think would happen to the average Joe if he missed an all-important court date regarding gun possession charges?

Well, if your 're Hollis born Ja Rule, you get a scolding from a judge if you promise never, ever to do it again.

Ja Rule missed a court date last month because he was on tour in Germany. Manhattan Supreme court Justice Micki Scherer gave the Queens rapper permission to leave the country for another overseas excursion in Moscow.

Oh, to live the life of the rich and famous.

Bayside Is The Best Side

Last year AOL named Queens one of the “13 Worst Places to Retire” owing in part to the number of deaths that occur on Queens Boulevard.

But another major Queens thoroughfare, Bell Boulevard, has earned the Queens neighborhood of Bayside the title of “New York’s most kid-friendly community.”

A recent report by the Citizens Committee for Children found that 98.8 percent of Bayside’s streets were clean.

The study also found that 91.3 percent of Bayside elementary and middle schools met math standards.

Rego Park and Forest Hills were also high on the list.

House At Center of Lawsuit Burns

Hollis-born rapper 50 cent is feeling the heat again.

His multimillion-dollar Dix Hills home which is at the center of a bitter dispute between him and the mother of his son was destroyed by a suspicious fire.

Shaniqua Tompkins, 50’s ex-girlfriend and their 10-year-old son, Marquise, were taken to a hospital after suffering smoke inhalation but later released.

A June 10 court hearing on whether Tomkins should be evicted or get position of the house had been scheduled.

The home was apparently totally destroyed and the Suffolk County arson squad were called in to investigate.

The Queens rapper was filming a new movie in Louisiana.
