Hottie At Lucky's

Christina Lynn
Home: Bayside
Age: 20
Height: 5’ 7"
Weight: 115 lbs
Stats: 34-25-34

For someone who is just doing this modeling thing for fun, Christina Lynn sure is having a good time.

“When you’re a girl, a little bit of fame gets you to feel like princess – it’s a lot of fun,” she said.

This princess, who is half Chinese and half Italian, moved from Bay Ridge to Bayside barely a year ago. She is a bartender at Lucky’s on Bell Boulevard, and enjoys the shorter commute to her classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

“I just needed a change, Christina Lynn said of her decision to move to Bayside. “Besides, Bayside is young, it’s got a lot of young people like me.”

Within six months of deciding to do some modeling for fun, Christina has landed a major gig.

“I’ve always been a city girl, and people just come up to you and say, ‘you should look into modeling; you’re so beautiful. Well, about six months ago I came across Maxim – actually Maxim came across me. I got into the Hometown Hotties contest, and it escalated from there.”

Next thing she knew, Hawaiian Tropics had contacted her, and a month ago she signed on to be a model for the company.

But modeling, alas, is not where Christina Lynn’s ambition lies. When she gets her degree in advertising and marketing from FIT, she is going to go into public relations and event planning – “Things that are in the spotlight,” she said. “I can never just sit somewhere and do the same thing for eight hors a day.”

Christina Lynn is loving her move to Bayside, so far.

Her favorite thing about Bayside?

“The atmosphere,” she said. “I like the fact that its very residential, but you can still find something to do and have a good time.”

Money Man

Richard Dreyfus in Poseiden

Alright, so what we’re hearing is that if we were to wave a wad of hundreds in front of Richard Dreyfus’ face that his retired butt just might jump from the couch to recite a line or two for us?

Okay, maybe a wad of hundreds isn’t enough for the one-time Queensite to entertain, but rumors say that the dollar signs happen to be leading the actor these days.

According to the website contactmusic.com, Dreyfus had announced his retirement from Hollywood to focus on theater, but he was coaxed back by the hefty pay he received from the movie, “Poseidon.”

“It was because they offered me enough money to do the things I want to do now like teaching, lecturing and reading about history,” Dreyfus confessed. “I need the money because when I was earning well, I was not handling it as wisely as I should have done.”

Author, Auteur

Kerouac wrote "On The Road" in Richmond Hill.

After years of false starts and creative problems, it looks like Francis Ford Coppola is finally laying out production plans for a film version of Jack Kerouac’s 1956 novel On The Road.

Coppola spent his childhood in Queens; Kerouac composed the classic coming-of-age story while living in Richmond Hill.

Coppola’s production company, American Zoetrope, acquired rights to the book in 1979. Difficulty finding a screenwriter and director has delayed the film’s progress, but Coppola has now tapped Jose Rivera and Walter Salles for the respective jobs. The two collaborated in 2003 on another road movie, The Motorcycle Diaries, which chronicled the travels of Ernesto “Che” Guevara before he became the leftist revolutionary icon of Cuba.

The film version of Kerouac’s boozy, ecstatic journey out of New York City into the heart of America will likely hit theaters in 2007.

Taxi Beach Bonanza

Okay, so not only do the folks at New York Water Taxi Beach know how to throw a party, but now they’re giving away cool prizes, too.

New York Water Taxi Beach, in its second year of existence, offers Queens commuters a chance to get sand in their shoes and some stiff drinks in their bellies after a hard days work during the summer. The beach is located adjacent to the New York Water Taxi pier at Hunters Point.

Since the people who run the place know that commuters have such a good time when they visit, they have decided to have a contest to allow the visitors to show just how good a time they are having.

Visitors are encouraged to post pictures “with people, without people, on the beach, on the boat, from the beach or from the boat” at www.flickr.com/groups/newyorkwatertaxi/, and can enter as many times as they want.

The prizes? Totaling just more than $9,100 in value, include a one-year pass on the Water Taxi and a $250 gift certificate for food and drink. Keep taking the pictures and keep coming back so you can win the prizes and…well…keep coming back.

Be sure to enter by Sept. 15.

Keys In The Other Jamaica

Alicia Keys

Queens Songbird Alicia Keys was recently on the island of Jamaica for a video shoot of the remix of Jamaican dancehall artist Cham’s “Ghetto Story.”

The video was shot in the Duhaney Park area of Kingston where deejay Cham hails from.

“Its kinda interesting how the collaboration happened. The label didn’t come to us, neither did Cham. Actually, we (Keys and her management) went to them,” Keys told the Jamaica Observer.

“We approached Cham to be on the remix, and I felt ecstatic about it. We all have our own story of how we were raised and what we saw while we were growing up. I like the way Cham rode the rhythm and I liked his flow. He was really being honest and truthful, and I wanted to tell my story. I appreciated his story.”

Frankenfish

The jury on “Frankenfish” is still out.

Also known as the northern snakehead, this is a top-level predator fish that boasts of razor sharp teeth and can live for hours out of water. Frankenfish first gained notoriety after being discovered by a Queens College professor in Willow Lake. Yup, that’s Willow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Since then, the city has been monitoring its reproduction via its increase or decrease in numbers. While some officials believe there has been no increase, others believe that slight differences in their sizes suggest breeding has occurred.

This immigrant fish is a native of China, but for the time being it has taken up residence in Flushing Meadow Park. Residents beware!
