For Rebbeccia, modeling was love at first sight. She said she was introduced to modeling through a friend.
“I saw my grandfather taking pictures of her and I thought that is was cool,” Rebbeccia said.
She has been modeling for almost a year now and her biggest shoot was involving Vitamin Water.
“I just sat there and took a picture with a bottle of Vitamin Water,” she told us.
Rebbeccia said she likes modeling because it is a different form of self expression.
“I like to be in front of the camera,” she said. “I like to show that I can do more than taekwondo.”
Before delving into the modeling world Rebbeccia was sure, her career path would somehow include music as she loves to play the guitar, but modeling had changed that. Music has moved from her primary focus to hobby status. Although she enjoys modeling dreams of opening up her own restaurant are not far from her mind. She said she wants to learn the culinary arts.
In her downtime, Rebbeccia said she participates on her school newspaper, plays the guitar, listens to music; especially the Jonas Brothers Band, taekwondo and like most young ladies, hangout with her friends.
She said that she knows that she doesn’t represent the typical model, but that hasn’t stopped her.
“Although I’m not the skinniest person modeling is a lot of fun,” Rebbeccia said.
Amen!

| Roller Derby Queen
|
| Queens Librarian Carly Bogen joins the NYC Gotam Girls (in black).
|
You think the fellers are the only ones that can play rough-and-tumble, throw a couple elbows and cause some pain? I guess you have never seen roller derby girls in action.
According to the Daily News, women from the local league, New York City Gotham Girls will begin the season April 19, when the best of the boroughs, including members from the local Queens of Pain, face off against all-stars from Philadelphia and Connecticut.
Carly Bogen, Queens Library’s very own media librarian is a rookie to the bone crunching, shin bruising sport. She was welcomed into the ranks of hard nosed veterans when she broke her tooth the first week of practice.

Love Birds

| "I Love New York"
|
I know, I know not another reference to Tiffany “New York” Pollard and her play thing, I mean fiancé. But her beloved George “Tailor Made” Weisgerber is extending his 15 minutes of fame and trying to rack up a cool 30.
Weisgerber, a retail planner was given a disorderly conduct summons for flipping the bird to a Chelsea police officer.
The 32-year-old Queens native has a date with justice next month.
Pollard and Weisgerber both appeared on VH1’s “I Love New York 2,” a spin-off of “Flavor of Love,” of which Pollard was one of 20 women vying for the heart Public Enemy standout Flavor Flav. Needless to say, she wasn’t the one.
In her attempt to find her love, “I love New York” was born; 20 gentlemen jumped through hoops and over hurdles to get at Tif. Maybe these lovebird can actually have a happily ever after.

Rafer Madness

| Rafer Alston
|
The NBA’s Houston Rockets recently reeled off 22 wins in a row, and Jamaica native Rafer Alston was at the helm.
The 31-year-old Cardozo HS product is the starting point guard for the league’s hottest team, averaging more than 13 points and five assists per game.
Nicknamed “Skip to my Lou” for his deft dribbling and footwork skills, Alston first made a name for himself as a New York City streetball legend.
Congrats to the Rockets and the kid from Queens fueling their surge.

Polish Propaganda

| Astoria's Thomas Moulton & Brendan Faye
|
In a televised address, Polish President Lech Kacynski displayed a photograph of Astoria couple Brendan Fay and Thomas A. Moulton.
Kacynski is opposed to ratifying the European Union’s Lisbon Treaty because it would lead to incorporating the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights, which outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation. Apparently Kacynski is so anti gay rights, he not only used a photo of the couple, he showed a clip from the wedding video.
Fay, who has fought for gay rights here in New York, wrote an angry letter to Poland’s consul general. It read, in part, “We are frustrated to hear that images from such a joyous day are used to spread intolerance. I request a meeting to discuss the matter of civil rights raised by the Polish political leader’s remarks and the uses/misuse of our wedding photographs.”

Birdbrain
Queens’ biggest bird feeder is suing the City for harassment after being fined $500 for being a public nuisance because of his love for pigeons. Well, 150 pigeons and he fed them twice a day, everyday, since 1950.
The 311 call complaint came in after one neighbor decided he was at the limit for pigeon poo.
Cecil Pitts, of South Ozone Park, told the Times that after losing his mother in 2004 the birds were like family.
“They are my whole life, because all my relatives are gone,” he said.
Making only $450 a month from a social security check, Pitts decided the only way to avoid the fine was to countersue claiming the inspector trespassed.
“I didn’t intend to pay the fine. And if I was incarcerated, my dogs would die,” he said.
Mr. Pitts’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 3.

Rock & Roll Queen
|
| Madonna
|
One-time Queens resident Madonna (she lived for a period in Corona) was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Madonna was inducted alongside John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five on March 10 at the Waldorf-Astoria at a ceremony broadcasted live on VH1 Classic.
Though she is not typically associated with the borough, the 80s pop icon was once a struggling performer who lived in a boarded-up synagogue in Corona while playing with a band called the Breakfast Club. During this time, she also worked as an elevator operator at Terrace On The Park.
Don’t forget your humble roots, Madge!
