Dream Job

William Elliot Springfield Home: Long Island City Age: 24 Height: 6’2 Weight: 175 lbs. Identities New York Incorporated
For most people, finding a job you love is a lifelong dream, but William Elliot Springfield is the exception. He is a full-time model and photographer and he loves every moment of it. Springfield realized he wanted to model two years ago while living in Boston. “I wanted to do it on a larger scale, so I moved to New York,” he said.
He was discovered at a fashion show in Manhattan and since then has modeled for Reebok, Mountain Dew and Pelle Pelle. Pretty soon you’ll see Springfield in the movie, “Blue Hill Ave.”
Although Springfield loves being in front of the camera, he enjoys playing a role behind the lens as well. He first picked up a camera three years ago and liked it so much that today he “lives, breathes and eats photography.” He has perfected landscape shots and recently started taking pictures of fellow models.
Springfield is definitely a catch, but sorry ladies he’s taken. When he isn’t modeling, he’s working out or doing freelance photography. Although modeling and photography are his passion, Springfield can see himself in a television sitcom or action film. So, whether it’s in front of or behind a camera, you’ll definitely hear William Elliot Springfield’s name again.

An Astoria Giraffe
|
| David Schwimmer
|
David Schwimmer, the 6-foot-2 Astoria native, may have been Hollywood’s best pick as the voice of the giraffe in the upcoming cartoon flick, Madagascar, but what about his co-stars?
Comedian Chris Rock, who lampoons race in America, will be the voice of the zebra. Playing the lion in the movie is actor Ben Stiller, who stared as the perfectly quaffed characters in recent flicks like “Zoolander,” “Dodgeball” and “Starsky and Hutch.”
And playing Gloria the Hippo is none other than the 5-foot-2, flat-bellied Jada Pinket Smith.
The movie, to be released sometime next year, follows several zoo animals from New York who are released into the Madagascan wild life.

Fight For NY

| Def Jam: Fight For NY
|
Ever wanted to fight Snoop Dogg? From Def Jam Records, the brainchild of Queens native Russell Simmons, comes Def Jam: Fight For NY, a street fighting videogame with “playable” appearances and music by more than 40 rappers and celebrities, including Method Man, Joe Budden, and Queens’ own badboy Noreaga.
Is Simmons reliving his gangster past in the virtual world? In this sequel to last year’s Vendetta, when armchair thugs are not busy smashing bottles over your least favorite rapper’s head, they can train with Henry Rollins, get tattoos, and buy bling bling jewelry and brand-name clothes from 12 “licensed” retail stores.

Walk The Line
There is an interesting advertisement hanging up in the men’s room at Shea Stadium’s upper level. It states, “You waited in line to get in here, can you walk the line to get home?”
The image shown is of a seemingly drunk man being given a “walk the line” test by a police officer. The ad continues with the name and phone number of a lawyer who will help you out if you are accused of a DUI or DWI.
The poster may be very appropriate for the Mets fans wishing to drown their sorrows about another season gone sour, despite the outrageous beer prices.
Still, the Shea should be commended for reminding the fans that if they are too inebriated to drive home from the game, the boys in blue will be there to help.

An East Elmhurst Cat

| T'Chilla
|
Keith David is one of those “what’s-his-name” actors, a face easily recognizable on the screen but not famous enough to become a household name. Fans of the “Iron Man” animated series may have a similar finger-snap, tip-of-tongue reaction when they hear a very distinctive voice of Black Panther, or T’Challa, one of the “good guys” on the show. David, a child of East Elmhurst, has been the voice of T’Challa for years. Purists might consider it unseemly for a Julliard graduate to do voice-overs, but the recent trend in Hollywood has many superstars lending their voices to cartoon characters, placing David in the company of Antonio Banderas, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Degeneres and Mike Myers. Besides, playing a feline-minded character is not new to David; he began his acting career by playing the Cowardly Lion in his school’s production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Dream Job
Looking for a job where you don’t have to do too much? How about a job where you can sit and read and listen to your favorite tunes? Well, you can be a “tree watcher,” or what the U.S. Department of Agriculture calls a “safeguarder.” These folks get paid $12.95 an hour to make sure no one touches a tree being treated with insecticide to prevent the Asian Long-Horned Beetle from breeding within Queens trees.
Next time you’re walking around in your neighborhood or driving through Queens, look for your neighborhood friendly “tree watcher.” Don’t forget to say hi and tell them how much you appreciate what they’re doing for your borough.
