Diana's Dream

Diana Schnaidt
Home: Astoria
Age: 21
Height: 5’ 9"
Weight: 117 lbs
Stats: 33-24-34

Diana may only be 21, but she has been a working model for the last six years, having gotten a start in her native Ukraine.

“I have done mostly runway and print modeling for my career,” she said. “I wish to break into high fashion modeling and that is why I am here in New York.”

Modeling was always a dream for Diana, but not one she thought she could achieve. “I didn’t really look to get into the business – this business found me. I have always wanted to be a model since I was a little girl and this is not only my dream but my passion in life. I am lucky enough to have not only a supportive family but my husband supports my decision to be in this business – you don’t really get to live a private life once you make a name for yourself.”

Diana is hoping to make modeling a full-time career, but understands that the competition is tough. She gets frustrated when she goes to casting calls and sees women who just want to model for fun.

“There are many models who try to be a model but they don’t have the heart like so few of us who live and breathe modeling,” she said. “They see this as a hobby like contestants who try to be on ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ I have been to the casting calls for this and the girls show up just for fun and this is no game for many who want a start at something that could be great.”

Just in case the modeling doesn’t pan out, Diana will register at LaGuardia Community College to get a physician’s assistant degree (to add to her Ukraine-earned Masters of Philosophy).

“I like to explore and find new places in Queens I don’t know about,” Diana said of her new-found home. “My favorite place in Queens is Astoria. There are many quiet restaurants and friendly people in the sleepy area of Queens.”

Bodacious

The Glamazons of Astoria

The Glamazons, big, beautiful and busty, took their act to a new level when they serenaded the country and the judges on “America’s Got Talent.”

The Astoria based Glamazons – Candy Apple, Lady Finger, Ginger Snap and Carmella – dubbing themselves the plus-size Pussycat Dolls, belted out “Lady Marmalade,” the classic disco hit inspired by New Orleans prostitutes.

The women didn’t pay homage to Patti Labelle, but did the raunchier version of the song performed by ‘Lil’ Kim, Pink, Maya, and Christina Aguilera.

The three judges, David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan, and Sharon Osbourne, were delighted and amazed by the Glamazons.

Morgan said he liked the “curvier look.” Osbourne called them “beautiful” and Hasselhoff said that unlike most “skinny women who come on the show and think they have their you-know-what together,” the Glamazons put on a good show.

"America’s got Talent" is not the first place the ladies put their bodacious bods on display, they have performed at the Rainbow Room Supper Club and a host of other venues.

G Unit G Spot

As if books, movies and music weren’t enough, Queens-bred rapper 50 Cent now wants to enter your bedroom.

In a recent interview with GQ, the bullet-riddled businessman who formed the G-Unit explained he plans to introduce a line of condoms, and even a sex toy – a motorized 50 Cent.

“A motorized version of me will definitely have to be waterproof, so you could utilize it in the tub,” he told the magazine.

And he’s not pulling punches when it comes to the design: “Blue is my favorite color, so it would probably be blue. But I don’t know how big. I don’t know if big is better because I’m not sure a man wants his woman playing with a really big dildo.”

Uh…

Naked Librarian

It appears naked librarian fantasies are close to coming true, at least for hikers trekking up Maryland’s leg of the Appalachian Trail, thanks to one Queens woman and other nature lovers.

Hike Naked Day marks the summer solstice on the 2,000-plus mile trail, according to the Baltimore Sun. It is the day when hikers can choose to scale boulders and summits in the buff and more than likely not be cuffed and thrown in a jail cell.

Michelle Ray, 30, a librarian from Queens who posed as a life model for art students while in college, contemplated naked hiking but decided against the nude journey.

“God forbid I run into a pack of Boy Scouts and scar them for life,” she told the Sun. “A naked librarian? They don’t need to see that.”

Obviously, this Queens woman has spent too much time with her nose in a book: a naked (young) librarian? What Boy Scout doesn’t want to see that?

Three Old Performers?

Tony Bennet, Kevin Spacey, Peter Vallone Jr. at the Frank Sinatra School graduation.

The graduating class at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Long Island City welcomed school founder Tony Bennett and award-winning actor and director Kevin Spacey as keynote speakers at the graduation ceremony last month.

Bennett, who was raised and educated in Astoria, praised Spacey and thanked him for agreeing to attend the ceremony, the Daily News reported.

“I greatly admire Kevin who is a gifted actor and director and has a passionate commitment to the arts,” Bennett said. “We are honored to have him address our graduating class this year.”

Though Spacey is not from Queens – he’s from next door: South Orange, N.J. – he grew up with a little Queens in his heart, listening to and singing along with Bennett songs, according to City Councilman Peter Vallone, Jr., who joined Bennett and Spacey at the graduation.

“Kevin Spacey said he didn’t want to embarrass Mr. Bennett, but he grew up singing Tony Bennett songs,” Vallone said. “Well, I don’t want to embarrass anyone either, but I grew up watching Kevin Spacey movies.”

Vallone was candid about his enthusiasm, joking with the students that he could now boast he had performed on stage with Bennett and Spacey, even it if was just the national anthem.

Tuskegee Honors

The Olympics aren’t the only way for Americans to get gold for work overseas.

Four Tuskegee Airmen were awarded Congressional Gold Medals on July 1 in Harlem – nearly 70 years after the first all-black squadron took flight.

One of them, Fredrick Lawrence of Queens who turned 87 the day of the ceremony, put the experience in perspective: “What you have is a whole bunch of old men who went through a whole lot. It’s great to be honored.”

They joined more than 300 of their peers who were awarded the custom-made gold medals emblazoned with “Tuskegee Airmen” in Washington. The elite group trained in Tuskegee, Ala., from 1942 through 1946, fought in World War II and fought racism at home and abroad. They often provided escort for bombers and are credited with never losing a bomber to enemy fire.

Reginald Brewster of St. Albans was also honored with the medal – the highest civilian award bestowed by Congress.

Kwik Change

Kwik-E-Mart from the Simpsons

New Yorkers can now sample some of the delicious delicacies of Springfield.

As part of a promotion to hype the much-anticipated “Simpsons Movie” coming July 27, 11 7-Eleven stores across the country have been converted into Kwik-E-Marts for the month of July. The quick-stops features Simpsons staples Buzz Cola, KrustyO’s breakfast cereal, Radioactive Man comic books, Squishees and pink doughnuts with sprinkles.

Kwik-E-Mart is of course owned and operated by Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, who is voiced by Forest Hills native Hank Azaria. The veteran actor also lends his vocal chops to “Simpsons” favorites Police Chief Wiggum and cranky bartender Moe Szyslak, among others.

Though Queens, for some inexplicable reason, was denied our own slice of Springfield heaven, you can hurry in to the New York Kwik-E-Mart/7-Eleven at 345 W. 42nd St. in Manhattan.
