Daydreaming Daymar
Hailing from Dominican Republic, Daymar immigrated to the United States three years ago and has not looked back. In high school she gave it her all during the talent show, showcasing her voice, dance moves and modeling abilities. “I write songs, dance and act,” she said. Since graduating and moving on to the Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she studies Business Administration, she has done two fashion shows and filled out her portfolio after New York photographer Nick Beneduce photographed her last month. “I love taking pictures of myself,” the 18 year old said. “Whenever I go out, I always have a camera.” Daymar said she looks up to models like Tyra Banks who seem to do it all, including hosting “America’s Next Top Model,” her favorite show. Although Daymar said she misses DR sometimes, Woodhaven is home for now. “I love it here,” she said.

| Harvard Bagboy
| Queens native Eric Lesser
Tracking heavy luggage and keeping an eye out for lost undershirts and boxers were probably not what Queens native Eric Lesser, a Harvard graduate, pictured doing with his degree. When people think of a Harvard graduate, lawyer, doctor or business guru come to mind, but Lesser, 23, is the ground logistics coordinator for Senator Barack Obama. In layman’s terms, this means he is responsible for tracking the entire luggage aboard Obama’s campaign plane. “People don’t realize all the adventures their bags go through,” Lesser said earnestly to the Daily News. “The bags need to get from A to B, and at the end of the day, you’ve just got to do what you need to do to make it happen.” While still in college, Lesser organized students to support Obama and following graduation in 2007, joined the Senator’s campaign. When the position to track the luggage became available, he was referred by “higher-ups”. “They billed it as an exciting promotion of sorts,” he said.

Snake Charmer
| Chester an Albino Burmese Python
If you’re the average person, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a snake is a slippery, slithery, pest. Maybe even a beast. There is a Queens guy and his pal who are trying to change your mind about the appendageless creatures. Mike Richardson, a floor care specialist from Elmhurst, and Dewey Dawson, an exterminator from Crown Heights, introduce Sunshine, a 12-foot albino python, and Big Boy, a boa constrictor, to anyone willing to greet their pets. If you are looking for a glimpse, or want to try your hand (or neck) at having the beauties say hello up close and personal, find a tourist spot in town. A touch is free, but a picture is a mere $10.

Can You Hear Me Now?
| Forest Hills' Ray Romano
“Everybody Loves Raymond” may be off the air, but Forest Hills native Ray Romano still has a place at the annual Emmy Awards telecast. Last year, however, Fox opted to drop sound and picture during the comedian’s monologue when the Queens College-educated Romano decided to make a joke about the Fox series “Back to You” starring both “Frasier’s” Kelsey Grammer and his former co-star Patricia Heaton. “Frasier is screwing my wife,” Romano said, though you wouldn’t know if you were watching from home. “Back to You” has not been renewed for another season. Romano’s career, on the other hand, is far from extinct, even if he does provide the voice for a wooly mammoth in the hugely successful “Ice Age” movies, the third of which is scheduled to hit theaters early next year.

Tennis Star Comes To Queens
| Israeli Shahar Peer conducted a free youth tennis clinic in Queens
Israeli tennis sar Shahar Peer came to Queens Aug. 21 to hold a free tennis clinic with local youth at Kissena Park. According to a press release announcing her arrival, Peer is supposedly one of the world’s top tennis players, as if we all should know. “Shahar Peer is one of the world’s top-ranked tennis players and we are very fortunate that she is willing to take a break from her preparations for the U.S. Open to conduct a free clinic for some of New York City’s underserved children,” said New York City Sports Commissioner Kenneth Podziba. Excuse those of us that don’t follow women’s tennis religiously and believe the only important matches on Queens soil take place at the end of the August, when the US Open begins But good for her. It really shows some spirit to make an extra trip all the way to Queens. And she’s giving athletic instruction to kids, that’s good too. Heaven knows any reason to get kids out of the house and away from video games is certainly worth it.
