Beautiful Nenna
|
|
Nenna Home: Rosedale Age: 19 Height: 5’9" Weight: 128 Stats: 34-26-36
Meet Nenna — a stylish whirlwind of modeling and singing skills from the streets of Rosedale.
Strutting her stuff for the camera since she was 16 years old, Nenna, of Nigerian descent, has a great deal of modeling experience. She has done print work with companies like Ogilvy and Mather and was even featured on a segment with WB11.
“I’m very expressive,” she said. “You can open up and be yourself in front of the camera. I love things that catch people’s attention, and that’s what modeling is all about.”
Though she is a mere 19 years old, Nenna has aspirations to jump into the modeling world full-time.
When her beauty is not being captured on the lens, it is usually shining on the stage when Nenna is singing. She has sung in church performances and has recorded with other artists. Some of her favorite divas include Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston.
Though much of her time is spent in Manhattan where she is currently studying fashion and marketing Berkeley College, she still has a lot of pride for her borough. She likes to shop in the Queens Center Mall and go rollerblading on parks and streets in Rosedale.
“Queens is a lot more of a residential area,” she said. “You can have a family here, and can start a lot of community activities here because it’s much more giving and a lot more relaxed than other boroughs.”

| The Yankee & The Trib Model
When QConf first featured model Gia Allemande as Model of Queens back in July, she told us that she loved the New York Yankees. Little did we know how much!
Recently, it was alleged our very own Trib Model of Queens, Gia Allemande was in the car of Yankee pitcher Carl Pavano when he crashed it on Aug 15 in West Palm Beach, Florida and broke two ribs. Pavano did not fill out a police report, nor did he notify his team of the injury, but he was quick to wisk Allemande out of the vehicle when the accident took place, according to the driver of the other car.

Models Beware
Let’s face it, some of the best-looking gals in Queens have graced this page as one of our Models of Queens, but we often hear of some shyster photographer or agent who scams these poor girls out of hundreds of dollars without giving them so much as an 8-by-10 glossy.
Be warned, then, that there is a company that one family said has been hanging out at the Queens Center Mall and doing some unscrupulous work. According to a lawsuit, City Model & Talent Development Center of Islandia, NY allegedly took Social Security numbers and credit card numbers from the family of a 16-year-old and charged hundreds of dollars before the first photo was shot.
It’s up to the courts to determine if these guys did anything wrong, but let us add a word of caution to the models out there – if you have any questions, call us. After all, if we aren't the experts, we sure can get you exposure.

Reality Show
|
| Hollis native Rev Run Simmons
|
A camera crew from the reality MTV show “Run’s House” was in the delivery room for the birth of the daughter of Rev Run Simmons and his wife, Justine. Thescene will be a part of the third season of the reality series.
The crew taped the birth of Victoria Anne who arrived by C-section Sept. 26 but unfortunately died shortly after.
The birth and death of baby Victoria will still become a part of the reality show. According to big brother Russell Simmons, the reality show will have to deal with the tragedy.
“For some unknown reason she chose to come early and unfortunately did not survive,” Rev Run told TMZ.com. “We must accept whatever is there, and once you accept unconditionally, then everything is beautiful. Every pain has a purifying effect. So whatever comes your way, just be thankful. We see life in death and believe in the celebration of life in death.”

Coyote Crazy
A coyote came for a Big Mac, but got a bite of a Queens resident last week instead. Maria Gicana, a nurse from Briarwood, was at a McDonald’s rest stop on Interstate 95 in Connecticut when the animal snuck up behind her and nipped the back of her knee.
“I looked around. I thought it was my boyfriend playing tricks on me,” she told the New Haven Register.
Apparently, bone-headed McDonald’s employees got the animal hooked on greasy fries and chicken nuggets, which is why it made frequent trips through the parking lot.
So much for worrying about getting jumped near a dark alley in Queens.

| Lance Armstrong takes to the streets in training for the NYC Marathon
|
Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has gone from conquering the Pyrenees to conquering the streets of Queens.
Armstrong obviously has a different idea of what retirement means because he’s signed up for the New York City Marathon in November. Last week, he took a test run from Niketown in Manhattan across the Queensborough Bridge into Queens. Apparently, the Sheryl Crow mix on his iPod wasn’t cutting it, so a crowd of fans ran with him to offer support.
It was the first time Armstrong has interacted with non-celebrities since he split with singer Sheryl Crow a few months back in exchange for shirtless and sweaty runs with Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey. They were absent from his Queens escapade.

Let's Go Mets!
|
| ESPN's Queens kid Mike Tirico
|
You can sense it even from the announcer’s booth.
There’s no denying it- “The personal notion of `My team, our players’ is so unique in Boston, New York and Philadelphia,” ESPN play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said.
The new lead broadcaster for ESPN's Monday night football added, “I think there is a passion and personal attachment to the fortunes of a team in these three cities that you don’t see anywhere else.”
Well hello Tirico, look at our teams here in New York, how can you not have an undying passion when you root for a team especially like the Mets over in Flushing. We’re sure you’ve been counting the losses along with the wins, just as we have and let’s just say one list is longer than the other, and don’t forget when playoff time comes around, we’re still rooting.
From where Tirico is sitting he can surely see the stands are swaying with hope and determination, then again he did grow up in Queens and experienced the emotion attending New York Jets game as a kid.
“In those three cities, there is an edge of intimidation, anger and real excitement in the crowd that there isn’t in any other city,” said the Bayside High School alum.
