At Queens Center

Giulio Mancuso
Home: Bayside
Age: 30
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 160 lbs.

Bayside hunk Giulio Mancuso flexed his muscles and flashed his dimpled smile to tempt women on “Temptation Island.” Now, the 30-year-old Cardozo High School graduate is turning his charm on to area residents as one of the new faces of Queens Center Mall.

Giulio said he was shopping in the mall with his girlfriend – who learned of his “Temptation Island” antics shortly before they aired nationally – when they saw the modeling casting call. “I didn’t think I would get it,” said Mancuso. “Ever since I was a kid, I figured I didn’t have what it took” to be a model, he said. Giulio admitted that his attention to his wardrobe did get him some attention early on. “I’ve been called ‘pretty boy’ my whole life.”

Although he grew up near Bell Boulevard's hot spots, Queens Center was “the first mall I ever walked into.” Years later, with his face greeting customers near the 92nd Street entrance, he said, “I’ll frequent this mall more now. It’s my mall.”

For his modeling debut, Giulio showed off his physique with a snug, orange rugby shirt that barely fit over his biceps. That’s more than he’s worn before. Contestants usually wear barely-there outfits on “Temptation Island,” where hotties like Giulio try to lure away people in committed relationships.

As for the attention surrounding Giulio, a mortgage broker, he said, “It doesn’t faze me.”

The number-crunching hottie did offer some advice to those too timid to even show up at casting calls, like the two that landed him on billboards and television. “You can do anything you put your mind to. You have nothing to lose…think of it as an experience.”

With the mall advertising campaign in full swing, Giulio said he plans to parlay his latest round of publicity into an all-out acting career. “I can do a great DeNiro impression. Here, watch,” he said, as Giulio winced his eyes, raised his eyebrows, and silently transformed his face into that of a young Vito Corlone.

Giulio laughed off the question of where he thinks other aspiring hotties should go for their wardrobe. “Queens Center,” he said, “It’s my mall.”

Capital Offense – But Not Toby

Albany is in the headlines again for disgraceful behavior, and this time it’s not about the inability of politicians to pass an on-time budget after months of squabbling.

The sexual foibles of politicians is in the news again, as a prominent Assemblymember stands accused of improper sexual activity with a 19-year-old intern. Adam Clayton Powell IV, the Assemblyman under scrutiny, allegedly plied his young staffer with alcohol and took her to a motel, where the two disagree over whether the sex was consensual or not.

“It’s a wonder that everybody didn’t learn their lesson about interns from Bill Clinton,” State Senator Toby Stavisky told QConf recently. The longtime Albany addict entered the political arena after her husband, perennial politician Leonard Stavisky, passed away five years ago, Mrs. Stavisky assured her Flushing constituents that she would not be making any scandalous headlines before the ongoing legislative session ends sometime in June.

“I couldn’t have a sex scandal if I tried,” Stavisky admitted. “I don’t think anyone is interested right now.”

Attention all male Albany interns: Senator Stavisky’s office is located in room 504 of the Legislative Office Building. She favors practical shoes, often wears round glasses and has a terrific sense of humor. For a good time, call (518) 455-3461.

The Borough Of Love

Alicia Keyes & 50 Cent

One of the borough’s most famous rap stars has his eyes on another music superstar – one that also just happens to live in Queens.

Jamaica native 50 Cent has apparantly been reaching out to R&B singer and Forest Hills resident Alicia Keyes for quite a while trying to score a date.

According to industry insiders, 50’s been burning up the phone lines calling Keyes since his split from actress Vivica A. Fox.

But sources close to both stars said this intraborough romance does not look like it’s going to work out. A source said in a published report, “50 Cent has been after her for absolutely ages. He’s been putting in calls to her management under the pretence they are going to record a track together.”

The source added that Keyes hasn’t called back.
C’mon, Alicia. At least he lives nearby!

Not Welcome

Rapper Ja Rule might have to come back to Queens.

The well-to-do residents of SoHO are whining that their lives are miserable because of the “wild” parties being held at his recording studio there.

The locals are complaining of excessive noise and “bad behavior” at the INC studios. Some residents are even threatening to (God forbid) move out.

Ja Rule maintains that people are just there to record.

No, Really?

With the MTA’s private bus takeover keeping commuters concerned and giving elected officials headaches, it’s good to see that one Queens politician can still keep a sense of humor about the whole thing.

Queens Assemblyman Barry Grodenchik told QConf that he has the solution to the whole problem.

He said, “We’re not going to get any buses. We’re just going to give everyone a car.”

Sounds great, Barry. But with gas prices as high as they are, maybe we’ll decline.

Smoke And Mirrors

Advertising sure has changed since the City’s smoking ban was enacted.

For Play, a pool hall, bowling alley, bar and restaurant in Elmhurst, smoking has become the center of its advertising campaign.

On all of Play’s advertisements, the words, “Eat, Drink, Shoot, Bowl, Smoke” appear. On one flier, a pair of blood red lips is shown with a cigarette hanging out.

That’s all because Play has a special ventilated room that is completely sealed off from the rest of the place. The city assures QConf that smoking is legally permitted there, making it one of the only places in the city where patrons can light up indoors.

Guess the old saying applies to the world of advertising: if you’ve got it, flaunt it.
