A Brainy Beauty

Sherrona Robinson
Home: Far Rockaway
Age: 26
Weight: 105 lbs.
Height: 5’6’’
Stats: 32-28-31
Sherrona Robinson, a Far Rockaway resident and model from a 2002 spring/summer Fashion Institute of Technology fashion show, has the beauty and brains to succeed in this world.
She showed off her style when she walked the catwalk in eveningwear and hip/hop casual clothes, but also showed her smarts when she graduated from CUNY’s York College with a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology.
The aspiring model/actress knows that she couldn’t be so successful without her family, including her mother, father, two sisters and their dog. “They are very encouraging,” said Sherrona. According to Sherrona, they are the ones who encouraged her to get involved in modeling and acting in the first place.
Until her career takes her away, she will continue to work for Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company, and study to get her master’s degree in biology from Queens College.
“The hardest part [about modeling] is getting that foot in the door and the help [you need],” said Sherrona. There are a lot of talented people out there, she explains, but she still has faith that she’ll stand out in front of the others. “You just have to show them that you’re the best.”
Sherrona studied for four years at the Barbizon School — splitting her program between modeling and commercial acting.
She hopes to be well known throughout modeling agencies and aspires to succeed in the world of print and TV advertisements.
She has already been on several modeling interviews, although no modeling work is definite in her future. She said no matter what, she won’t get discouraged, and understands that the industry is “extremely hard.”
When Sherrona is not working or studying, she is either at the movies, clubbing or eating. “I am all over Queens… I love to go out and eat,” Sherrona said.

| The War Goes On

We should all give Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan a round of applause for attempting to squash the beef between Southeast Queens rappers Ja Rule and 50 Cent.
Farrakhan invited the rappers to sit down and talk with him about their public hatred for each other. Ja accepted the invitation, but 50 Cent, who said he respects the minister, declined the invite.
Sources say that Farrakhan has not given up on trying to reach 50 Cent and other rappers for a roundtable discussion on “saving our children, ourselves and our community.”
Farrakhan met with Ja last November and discussed how the rivalry was born.
According to Ja, the beef started over a mic and a dream at his video shoot on Jamaica Avenue. 50 Cent reportedly wanted Ja to ask him to be in the video, but Ja didn’t and this is how all of the rumors and fighting started.
It’s nice to know that grown men turn to children once money, the bling and fame are involved.
A credit to Queens!

Reality Movie?
Will Adrien Brody be channeling some of the experiences of his boyhood-pal-turned-soldier for his newest film role?
Brody, the Oscar-winning actor from Queens whose star has been on the rise since his breakout role in The Pianist, is set to portray a Gulf War vet in his newest film, “The Jacket,” which began filming last month.
The film follows a veteran of the first war in Iraq who faces accusations of a murder he cannot remember committing. The troubled vet believes he is traveling through time in search of his true love, and ends up in an asylum where doctors use a controversial treatment called “the jacket.”
Many readers will remember that Brody’s childhood chum, Tommy Zarobinski from Rego Park, became a heroic soldier in real life, serving on the front lines in Afghanistan last year. Zarobinski had a brief brush with fame when an ecstatic Brody gave him shout during his acceptance speech at last year’s Academy Awards.

Let’s Go Nets?

Queens Councilman Eric Gioia is a die-hard Mets fan. Everybody knows that; he makes it quite clear.
But this past week, he decided to make a pitch for a different local team – the New Jersey Nets.
Gioia showed up unannounced at a rally to fight team owner Bruce Rather’s plan to build a $450 million stadium for the highly successful basketball team in Brooklyn. The plan would force some Brooklyn residents to move from their homes through eminent domain so the stadium can be built.
At the rally, Brooklynites held signs like “Develop, Not Destroy,” and “Stop Illegal Eminent Domain.” Gioia, who was not invited to the rally, decided to use that to his advantage, and showed up to pitch Queens as a possible site for the new stadium.
He suggested the Sunnyside Railyards or Willets Point as two possible spots.
Ratner’s spokespeople told QConf that the idea “just isn’t going to happen.” One spokesperson said, “We have done plenty of research, and Brooklyn is the perfect site.”
Oh well, Eric. Why not move the Olympic Stadium from the West Side to Willets Point?
