A Beautiful Mind

Salina Moora had a chance to act alongside Sam Waterston in “Law & Order.” But the John Jay College sophomore is not only beautiful, she’s brainy – she turned down the role after learning it would interfere with her studies.

“For now, acting and modeling are things I want to do on the side,” she said. “I’m still really focused on school. I want to be a lawyer one day – criminal or corporate law.”

Salina started modeling after she was discovered walking down a Queens street. A woman approached her and asked her to consider fit modeling, a profession that involves trying on clothing in a manufacturer’s showroom so that designers and buyers can “test” the outfits and make changes before they hit stores.

“It was really fun. We sat for a lot of pictures and sometimes we did runway work,” Salina said. “For now, I would do any kind of modeling job – except nudity – no nudity.”

Salina’s other passion – besides modeling and brushing up on famous legal cases – is acting. As a student at Richmond Hill High School, she caught the acting bug after playing Juliet in her school’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.” She enrolled in acting classes and has been auditioning for television roles since.

“I’m not really inspired by many actresses, but I admire a lot of actors, like Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis,” she said.

In her free time, Salina likes to take pictures, play sports, shop at Roosevelt Field Mall and Saks Fifth Avenue and read – she just finished Patricia Cornwell’s “Portrait of a Killer.”

“If I had to describe myself I’d say I’m very outgoing and not shy,” she said. “I’m very polite. I don’t curse. I’m just very humble.”

Run-DMC’s Fame Claim

Run-DMC in their early days.

Throughout their career, Run-DMC has rarely garnered anything short of first prize. The Hollis-born trio was the first rap group to receive a platinum plaque for their 1986 album “Raising Hell.” Their album was also the first rap record to earn a coveted five-star review by Rolling Stone magazine and they were the first rappers to appear on its cover.

So why are Joe “Run” Simmons, Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell delighted to place second in something this year? Because on April 4 they will become the second hip-hop group in history to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, following in the footsteps of legendary Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

Run-DMC will share the spotlight with music luminaries Metallica, Jeff Beck, Bobby Womack and Little Anthony and the Imperials at an induction ceremony that will take place in Cleveland.

Punishing Peddling & Paddling

Tony Seminerio

In one of the most absurd “You gotta be kidding moments,” in the history of the dysfunctional New York State Legislature, Queens Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio, who faces federal charges that he sold his influence for $1 million, introduced a bill that would allow “paddling” for juveniles 13 years or older, convicted on graffiti charges.

Seminerio is accused of setting up a bogus consulting firm to collect cash from businesses, including Queens Hospitals, in exchange for political favors. He was reelected without opposition in November after the indictment and release of transcript of taped conversations. Some of those tapes were apparently made with the cooperation of Seminerio's former Assembly colleague convicted Queens fallen powerhouse Brian McLaughlin, who is awaiting sentence for his own criminal misdeeds.

In pushing his new graffiti paddling bill, Seminerio argued in a supporting memo that paddling would deter vandalism by “adding a sense of humiliation to the punishment.”

And what does Tony suggest be the punishment for elected officials selling their office?

New Mets Patch Ordered To Go

REMEMBER THE OLD SEPARATED AT BIRTH PHOTOS? Check out the new Mets patch (left) announcing the inaugural season of Citi Field and the Domino's Pizza logo (right).

The Mets have caused a fashion faux pas with the latest patch added to their uniform.

In honor of Citi Field’s inaugural season, the Mets have stuck a tilted rectangular clunker to their sleeve. But the resounding outcry from fans has been to toss the sucker to the curb.

Many blogs are drawing comparisons between them and Domino’s Pizza logo. The franchise has yet to respond, but as long as their on-field play isn’t as cheesy as pizza, fans will probably forget about the patch by July.

Mets Sign Pitcher

The Mets are shoring up their bullpen signing right-handed pitcher Tim Redding to a one-year free-agent contract.

Redding tied a career-high with 10 victories last year for the Washington Nationals and set career bests with 33 starts, 182 innings pitched and 120 strikeouts.

A 30-year-old native of Rochester, Redding was 10-11 with the Nationals in 2008. He finished tied for ninth in the National League with his 33 starts.

Redding has pitched in the majors with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, the Yankees and the Nationals.

Pitcher Tim Redding (r.) is the newest Met.

Lack Of Plaque

Helen Marshall presents the once-missing plaque to Bob Harris.

There was a bit of confusion at the annual State of the Borough address last week. BP Helen Marshall was handing out lifetime achievement awards to Juliette Alkins Hansen, who serves on multiple boards throughout Southeast Queens, and to Bob Harris, who after retiring from a career as a teacher has gone on to help promote local high schools while being a civic leader and community board member.

Hansen came to the stage to get a plaque from Marshall, and along with her came scads of family, who helped her hold her flowers and her plaque – and apparently Harris’ as well.

As Harris stood on the stage moments later to be handed his plaque, it was missing, and as the confused organizers searched for it, Harris leaned in and suggested that Marshall just mail it to him. The Hansen family fessed up to the error and ran the plaque back up to the stage, and all was forgiven.
