Nikita
Home: Flushing
Age: 24
Height: 5’ 6"
Weight: 110 lbs
Stats: 32-25-34

Seeing her pictures in magazines and newspapers in Hong Kong was an adrenaline rush for Nikita Kwong, but three years ago the aspiring model chose to reach for more. She knew that her modeling days, however glamorous, wouldn’t last forever.

Nikita decided to relocate to our continent and pursue a degree in journalism and media studies at Queens College. In a role reversal she finds delightful, the 24-year-old stepped behind the camera and started snapping photos and making videos on her own.

“As I get older I think it’s better to get a real job,” said Kwong, who lives in Flushing. “I stopped modeling when I got here because I didn’t know much about the States.”

Kwong has been a TV news anchor and a radio DJ for local Chinese media outlets, but said she preferred to be behind the camera than in front of it. The craft she savors most is putting video packages together and editing. She’s currently interested in production assistant jobs and would be thrilled to work on TV shows or movies.

In addition, as she closes in on her degree, Kwong is also rekindling her modeling career. She had a casting call last week but said it might take time for her to get a gig. She said most agents she has dealt with in the U.S. look for women who are 5-foot-9, but she isn’t losing any sleep over it.

CK To WNBA

Christ the King High School in Middle Village has been an assembly line for basketball talent for years, and now two of its most prominent athletes will suit up in the WNBA.

Sue Bird, one of the most iconic faces of the fledgling league, has been a fixture for six seasons. Now she’ll have a CK alumnus to go up against twice a year. Shay Doron, the 16th pick in the last draft, will be in the lineup for the New York Liberty when it battles Seattle on July 1 and 22.

Their commonalities go further than high school. Both grew up on Long Island and played for the same AAU team though Doron went to Maryland and Bird to the University of Connecticut. Still, even the professional atmosphere that surrounds those programs don’t compare to making it to the big leagues.

“This is definitely a dream come true,” Doron said of playing at the Garden. “I didn’t get to play here in high school or college.”

Adjusting to the professional level – where the schedule is more rigorous – is not something Doron looks forward to, but seeing her predecessor from CK sure is.

“I’m looking forward to playing her,” Doron said of facing Bird. “Maybe she can show me around Seattle. I would love to sit with her and pick her brain about the league.”

Los Angeles Sparks forward and Christ the King idol Chamique Holdsclaw, who is from Astoria, has cemented her place in the WNBA. She has put up 17.7 points-per-game in eight seasons in the league and comes to the Garden July 31.

Bada Baby!

Drey DeMatteo

There’s a bada-bun in the oven for Whitestone’s Drea de Matteo.

The 35-year-old actress, who played Adriana La Cerva on HBO’s “The Sopranos,” recently announced that she and boyfriend, country singer Shooter Jennings, are expecting their first child.

De Matteo played Chris Moltisanti’s fiancé for the first five seasons of the organized crime drama before getting famously whacked in one of the series’ finest episodes.

She also appeared in such films as “Assault on Precinct 13,” “Swordfish,” and “The Perfect You.”

Let’s hope her foray into motherhood is a lot better than her time on “Joey,” NBC’s awful “Friends” spinoff.

Congratulations.

Satellite Party

Perry Farrell

What do Jane’s Addiction, Lollapalooza, and Queens have in common?

Perry Farrell.

After a four-year musical hiatus, the legendary rocker, DJ, producer and trendsetter has reinvented himself yet again.

Farrell and his new band Satellite Party just released their conceptual debut album, “Ultra Payloaded,” on Columbia Records. Spin.com calls it a “star-studded collaboration” that straddles “the line between dance pop and edgy rock.”

The album also features “Woman in the Window,” an unreleased vocal track from the Doors’ Jim Morrison – the first unheard Morrison performance in almost 30 years.

The recently-turned 48-year-old revolutionary from Queens seems to get better and bolder with age.

Joey Ramone InSoul

Joey Ramone for Doc Martens

A new ad campaign featuring rockers that have gone to the great beyond is causing quite a stir, and one of Queens’ own rock idols is at the center of the controversy.

Doc Martens, the shoe company that has provided punk rock, grunge, and countless other musical stylings with hardcore footwear over the years has started an ad campaign that seeks to highlight the “never-ending” durability of their shoes by displaying departed rockers in Heaven, still wearing their trusty Doc Martens. The departed musicians included in the campaign are Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Joe Strummer of the Clash, Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols, and Queens own Joey Ramone of the Ramones.

Sure, these counter-culture icons did love their non-descript black footwear, but would Sid Vicious and Joey Ramone be comfortable shilling shoes?

Perfect

LI Fury backup Goalie Michelle Betos

Whitestone's Michelle Betos, the two-time St. Francis Prep CHSAA Player of the Year, is returning to a local soccer team and hopes to continue her scoreless ways.

The goalie who attends the University of Georgia backed up the Long Island Fury’s first-string keeper last year for a few games and did not give up a single goal. The 2007 season is underway and so far, so good for Betos, who also plays for the Albertson Fury 87s in the LI Junior Soccer League.

The Long Island Fury play their home games at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, and their next game is Friday, June 15, at 5:30 p.m. vs. Connecticut. For info: www.lifurysoccer.com or call (516) 764-4588, and be sure to root for our gal.
