Queens G.O.P. Gaga Over McCain
By Joseph Orovic
Less than 24 hours after this election’s first presidential debate, the Queens County Republican Party held a McCain/Palin rally at its headquarters in Whitestone.
Approximately 50 people crammed into the headquarters’ small room, joined by incumbent State Senator Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose), Congressional candidate Liz Berney, State Senate Tom Dooley and Assembly candidates Tony Nunziato and Rob Speranza.
Curtis Sliwa, guardian Angels founder and WABC radio host, kicked off the rally with a resounding speech about the debate and the economy, saying McCain had “the biggest set of cajones and onions out there” while Obama put “window shades over his eyes, cotton balls in his ears and a zipper on his mouth” when it came to the economy. The speech left the crowd in frothing ecstasy.
The crowd thinned out as candidates followed Swila’s lead, grabbing the mic and praising McCain and calling Sarah Palin “a breath of fresh air.”
Despite New York being a veritable tsunami of Democrats, spirits were high.
“You are the ground troops,” Sliwa said. “Spread the message that America needs John McCain’s experience and leadership. Don’t give up, keep the faith and there will be victory on Nov. 4.”
