Stolen Torahs Returned

Queens County District Attorney Richard Brown (l.) joins NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly (c.) at a ceremony at police headquarters in which eight Torahs stolen from the Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills are returned to the synagogue in time for the Rosh Hashanah holiday. Joining Brown and Kelly are (l. to r.) Kew Gardens Hills honorary president Alan Gerard, the NYPD’s Chief Chaplin Rabbi Dr. Alvin Kass and Kew Gardens Hills President Meredith Deckler. In the background are members of the NYPD’s Shomrim Society (the fraternal organization of Jewish members of the New York City Police Department) holding the recovered Torahs.
