In case the $20 million per year Citigroup is shelling out for naming rights won’t cover expenses, the Mets are looking to maximize revenue on their new home by making Citi Field not just for baseball, but also attractive for year-round events.
The Metropolitan Hospitality Joint Business Venture at Citi Field is an effort to promote over 60,000-square-feet of hospitality and meeting space at the Mets new home. The team hopes it will serve as a venue for non-gameday events, corporate meetings, and private functions.
Aramark is a player in the professional services industry and also the Mets’ food and beverage provider. The company has now teamed with the Mets on this venture, seeking to create a bona fide hospitality destination in Queens.
With more than 60,000 square feet of hospitality space it will accommodate corporate meetings, receptions, private parties, trade shows, weddings, and a variety of other events.
The movement towards multi-use facilities has grown ever stronger over earlier eras in building thanks mostly to the escalating costs of construction and materials.
The price tag on the new stadium is a whopping $800 million.
Well placed close to mass transit, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy the new stadium will be easily accessible locally and nationally.
Metropolitan Hospitality will provide corporations, small businesses, and individuals a new destination with fine cuisine and excellent service in an array of elegant event spaces.
Citi Field will also feature amenities seldom seen in a ballpark so fans can watch in style. Groups of all sizes will now be able to select a game-style standard menu or design their own custom menu.
“The opening of Citi Field will provide fans an unprecedented entertainment experience. The launch of Metropolitan Hospitality at Citi Field will create the finest and most unique destination for corporate meetings, receptions, and hospitality events in New York City,” said Dave Howard, New York Mets Executive Vice President of Business Operations. “Through this new joint business venture we can now offer new ways for our fans, New Yorkers, and those visiting our city to enjoy our new home on a year-round basis.”
Some of the highlights of the new stadium include specially designed sections, one named after the immortal Jackie Robinson.
Here are brief descriptions of the most expensive and opulent.
The Robinson Rotunda will be inscribed with this famous quotation the man than broke baseball’s color barrier, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” This multi-level open space is the entrance for guests of Citi Field and will be used as an event space, and a welcoming entrance for guests. The rotunda will feature a statue and an exhibition on Robinson’s life. At 18,770 square feet it will accommodate a capacity of 1,640
The Sterling Club will be situated directly behind home plate from dugout to dugout. It will be the most exclusive area of Citi Field and will be adorned with wood tones, chandeliers and classic décor featuring leather and soft upholstered sofas, banquettes and bar seating. A full-service kitchen, two high-end dining areas and two elegant full-sized bars are designed to satisfy the discerning palates. At 22,500 square feet it will hold 1,600 maximum.
