Flux Factory Is Hoping To Take You Away

“Going Places” takes patrons on tours through the City.

By SASHA AUSTRIE

Tired of the same mundane summer year in and year out? Flux Factory’s Going Places (Doing Stuff) is the perfect summer outing to bring a sense of adventure to spark life into the humdrum of the season.

“There is always mystery in traveling, even if you know where you are headed,” a press release from flux factory stated. “Going Places (Doing Stuff) is all about this mystery, asking the general public to give themselves over to our artists.”

The event is essentially a tour of the city with artist giving you the best that it has to offer. Patrons can sign up for personally designed artist tour that range from one to three days.

Participant on the tour will congregate at 38-38 43 St. unless otherwise specified.

The tour will awaken the adventurer in anyone, as trekking over the asphalt of New York City will be seen in an entirely different light.

“The excitement of simply stepping on a bus to who-knows-where becomes a metaphor and catalyst for the leap of faith inherent to aesthetic experience in general,” boasted the release.

The tours will be free and open to the public, with the only limitations being capacity. So, it’s first come, first served. The summer ride will begin this Saturday and the artist featured will be Matt Levy.

Levy is a renaissance man of the arts as he is a licensed NYC tour guide, an ex-poet, current romantic, urban historian and spectacle enthusiast.

His suggestion for anyone joining him on his tour dubbed “Action and Direction”, wear comfortable shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Also, bring plenty of water, and money for lunch, drinks and souvenirs.

If Levy doesn’t tickle your fancy, what about Douglas Paulson? His tour, dubbed The Pennsyitucky Expedition is on June 28.

According to the release, “His work deals with urban exploration on land and water, and turning everyday experiences into extraordinary adventures.” To the attendees hoping to join Paulson he has the same recommendations as Levy, with regards to attire and money. Paulson has a surprise in store for his patrons as they will be provided safety goggles, gloves, respirators and a s’ mores kit.

Patrons of each tour know the artist, title and duration of the tour, but the where remains a mystery.

“In other words, when you sign up for a tour, you know what to bring and how long you will be gone, but you will have no idea where you are actually going or what you will experience.”

Other tour dates are in July and August with artist such as Annie Reichert, Gary Wiseman, Stefany Anne Goldberg and Jean Barberis.
