Role Models

On the front page today is Councilman Dennis Gallagher who resigned from his seat Monday effective April 18 and pleaded guilty to forcible touching and third-degree sexual abuse of a woman last summer in a room above his district office on Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village.

Two weeks ago, the governor acknowledged to spending more than $80,000 on prostitutes. The new governor and his wife both acknowledged this week to having affairs. We are not even addressing at the moment, the public officials dipping their hands in the public’s cookie jar.

Far be it from this paper to have all the answers but some of us grew up respecting public service as a way to make a positive difference in the community and a way to teach children how to follow.

Where are all the role models?
