Bloomberg’s Queens Legacy

We have applauded the performance by Mayor Mike Bloomberg throughout his almost six and a half year tenure at City Hall. He has been a savvy businessman and a visionary for both the City and the borough of Queens.

But as he approaches his final year, it’s time to look at his legacy.

Unfortunately, the governmental maze has impeded the mayor’s attempt for a Westside Stadium, the Westside Yards and other large development projects around the city.

Even though projects like Silvercup West, the new Police Academy and Flushing Commons are changing the face of the borough, the people of Queens deserve a Bloomberg legacy of their own.

We believe the mayor’s true mark would be taking the blighted area of Willets Point and converting it into a vibrant community space with affordable housing, commerce, parks and quality schools.

Former Borough President Claire Shulman’s, who has spearheaded the efforts for the project, has done a commendable job in bringing the project to the top of the City’s priorities, but we feel only the mayor has the ability to insure this project is a reality.

Mr. Mayor, the city’s most dynamic borough deserves this and we ask you to make Willets Point happen.
