A Despicable Crime

When word spread of Eight Torahs being stolen from the Jewish Center of Kew Garden Hills it was difficult to comprehend.

What would people want with a Torah?

When the facts started to be reported, police think it to be an inside job. A key was definitely needed to break into the center and take the scrolls valued at $60,000 a piece. This piece of the puzzle confounded even the most cynical.

Could someone really want to burglarize their own synagogue and sell its most holiest of religious possessions?

Thankfully the congregation of the Jewish center is strong enough to move past the heinous crime while the police continue to investigate the case.

A heartfelt condolence goes out to the congregation and to the community who are reeling from this crime.

And to the criminal who took the Torahs – give them back. It’s not too late.
