We Love A Parade
Though we have spent the rest of this special edition showing that bonds that united the gay community with the rest of Queens, we have to admit the differences.
Like Black, Latino, Desi, Asian or any other culture, there are distinguishing differences that set one group apart from another. From our perspective, that has always been one of the best things about living in Queens; from one street corner to the next you never know what you’re going to find.
That which distinguishes us from one another is often what endears us to each other. That is why ethnic foods are so popular and why hip hop music is mainstream. We embrace our differences and revel in their existence.
Which is why we love the Queens Gay Pride Parade. It doesn’t just separate gay from straight, but shows a diverse strata of lives within gay culture – from the modest to the outlandish, and everything in between.
Here’s to continued success of the parade and to diversity everywhere.
