This view from Astoria Park, almost shadowed by the Hellgate Bridge, is considered by some to be one of the best in Queens. Of course not everyone agrees, and why should they?
Being the best is not a matter of achievement, of beating out those around you, of rising above and beyond all the others who are just mediocre.
No; being the best, as far as we are concerned in this issue, is about holding a special place in someone’s heart. It is about being the apple of someone’s eye. To be the best is not to be loved by all, not to be regarded beyond all others, but simply to bring just one person joy, a smile or a moment’s calm in an otherwise frenetic life.
So read on, see what your friends and neighbors consider to be the Best of Queens, and when you’re done, be sure to turn back here and check out the view. It really is the best – to someone.

A Fitting End
Shel Silverstein tells in a poem of where the sidewalk ends. It is past the pits, where the asphalt flowers grow, where people walk with a walk that is measured and slow.
It is that thought of walking a walk measured and slow that brings us to the end of this journey through the Best of Queens.
We have meandered through the neighborhoods of the borough, walked their streets, eaten at their restaurants, met their people and heard their tales. In short, we have seen a slice of what is best about Queens.
There is so much more that lies ahead of us, so much more to do. We could never fit it all in here; we leave that for next year and the year after. We can ponder what the future may hold, what new bests may occur in reading this list and feel satisfied that we have taken this journey.
And for now, we will leave you with a fitting close, where the sidewalk ends.
