As the weather turns warmer many people will quickly come to a simple conclusion – it’s too nice outside to spend the beautiful days and nights hidden indoors, tucked away from the sun, the surf and the summer breezes.

We at the Queens Tribune feel the same way. With that in mind we have decided that it is time to Go Out And Play. Put down the remote control, pack a picnic lunch, gas up the car and just go.

Here’s a guide to all that is fun to do in, around and far from Queens when the weather is at its best. From the simplicity of running through a water spray in your neighborhood park to tubing in the Hudson Valley, screaming like a baby on a massive roller coaster or admiring a centuries-old lighthouse on Long Island, there’s plenty to do out there.

So have fun in the warm weather; bring your sun block and plenty to drink – it’s going to be a long summer. Let us be your guide to the best time of year. Enjoy!

So, did you get any good ideas?

We hope you had as much fun learning about the great things to do outside in the warm weather as we have had in doing the research. After all, we at the Tribune have been researching this book for years.

With so many of us hailing from around the area, we all have our own histories of places we have loved for decades. This special edition of the Tribune is filled with memories from our childhoods, from our experiences as we got older, from the joy we have seen on the faces of our children.

The research that went into this edition comes not just from a book or brochure, but from lifetimes of experiences – passing along a little information, a little insight into the lives of all of us who enjoy beautiful summer days, starlit nights, the waves on the beach, the feeling in the pit of your stomach as the roller coaster comes over the top of the first hill.

We hope you keep this compendium of our experiences, and customize it with those of your own – adding to the rich volume of memories for this summer and for years to come. Keep with us, and we’ll keep researching.
