Ice skate all winter in Flushing Meadows.

I is for Ice skating all winter long,

and gliding your feet to a holiday song.

Wave to the bikers as they ride on by

Bringing tears of joy to every sick child’s eye.

Independent Bikers

Does Santa wear leather chaps, have a handlebar moustache and drive a chopper?

You bet. Well, at least one day a year he does.

For 25 years now, the Independent Bikers of Queens have been bringing holiday cheer to sick children. This year they will go back to the Bernard Fineson Center on Crossbay Boulevard in Howard Beach to bring presents to the sick kids.

Now, we’re not talking about some group of a dozen or so do-gooders out to prove they can handle a Harley. This usually attracts between 10,000 and 20,000 bikers from across the country who drive in close formation.

They will start in Forest Park at 2 p.m. Dec. 4 and ride 2-by-2 to the hospital where each biker will bring an unwrapped gift. A portion of the $10 per bike entry fee also gets donated to the hospital.

Italian Charities Fun

What time is it? Tempo di celebrate. It’s time to celebrate, of course, and when it comes to Christmas celebrations Italian Charities of America in Elmhurst has all the reindeers, elves, Mrs. Claus and even Santas from across the borough knocking at their door.

The costume-clad partygoers are showing up at the Christmas Wonderland to sip on some eggnog and hot cocoa with Mr. Christmas himself, Sal Escott, this year. Not to mention, their polishing up a few rusty dance steps with the Lindy dance lessons offered.

The party will be held Dec. 11 at 83-20 Queens Blvd. To get in on the party call (718) 468-3100.

Ice Skating

Skating can be the best activity in the world for more reasons other than the fact that it’s fun. Sure you can tear up the ice as you glide about at high speeds, but what other way could you watch some of your best buddies embarrass themselves by taking a wild spill. Also a great way to get a date clutching tightly to your arm as you do circles around the ice and laugh the whole way through.

The World’s Fair Ice Skating Rink in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, in the same building as the Queens Museum of Art, is open through April 3 on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and other days when schools are closed. Admission is $8 Fri.-Sat, $5 Wed. Skate rentals are $4.50 a person. For more information on the rink call (718) 271-1996.

Icy Sidewalks

Icy sidewalks are just one of the many fun side effects that come along with winter. Not only are they a delight to break up with a shovel, but they are usually very effective in causing people to lose their balance.

Salt is your best friend when that snow starts coming down, otherwise you might find yourself quickly on your bottom. It’s also a good idea to shovel while it snows to avoid having a patch of ice build up under the powder by the end of a storm.

Don’t forget, New York City law states that your sidewalk must be shoveled, so be sure to have the tools you need on hand.
