In 1932, Charles S. “Casey” Jones, a pioneer aviator and
aviation company executive, foresaw the need for highly trained technicians
to design, build and service aircrafts and engines. George A. Vaughn,
Jr. and Lee D. Warrender joined with Jones in founding the Casey Jones
School of Aeronautics, the predecessor of the Academy of Aeronautics
and as of September of 1986, the College of Aeronautics.
The College of Aeronautics offers associate degree programs, and specializes
in aircraft design, repair, and operation. Located in Jackson Heights,
the school also offers bachelors degree programs in technology.

Opened in 1983, CUNY School of Law is the only law school which, from
inception, has defined its mission as training law students for public
service.
“Law in the Service of Human Needs” is the Law School’s
motto and, accordingly, its goal is to teach students to be lawyers
who will use their skills to serve the public interest. To this end,
the Law School faculty has developed a unique and cohesive curriculum
which integrates lawyering skills, practical experience and professional
responsibility with doctrinal study at every level. The school’s
facilities include a library and computer center.

DeVry Institute of Technology and Keller Graduate School of Management,
located at the Queens Atrium Center in Long Island City, offers undergraduate
and graduate level programs in technology, business and management.
At DeVry, programs include Business Administration, Computer Information
Systems, Computer Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and
Telecommunications Management. Flexible schedules, with day, evening
and weekend classes year round, enable students to earn a Bachelor’s
degree in three years or an Associate degree in 20 months. Keller offers
an MBA degree in Project Management and Information Systems Management,
which students can earn in 18 months.
DeVry occupies three floors in the eight-story Queens Atrium Concourse
Center, formerly part of the International Design Center of New York.
DeVry New York has 26 classrooms and seven state-of-the art laboratories.
Eight classrooms are tiered and include network connections to accommodate
laptop computers.
There are two labs supporting the Electronics programs. The campus recently
added a Telecommunications Lab and a Networking Lab with 60 positions
and six individual networks.
Science classes are taught in the Physics Lab and as well as a new Science
Lab. The Physics Lab is equipped with networked PC’s and scientific
testing equipment.
The library has over 14,000 paper and electronic titles, 72 paper periodicals,
nine databases and 13 computer workstations for student use.

Fiorello H. LaGuardia is one of 17 undergraduate colleges of The City
University of New York. A vibrant community of learners – students,
faculty and staff – the college was conceived as a place where
a wide range of educational opportunities would be available to anyone
seeking to enrich his or her life. Since admitting its first class of
540 students over 30 years ago, LaGuardia has continually supported
the principles of open access and equal opportunity for all. Today,

LaGuardia serves the growing neighborhoods of Western Queens, as well

150 nations represented in the student body, many of its students are
recent arrivals to the United States or have traveled here from their

Students with limited English language proficiency and students needing

At its inception in 1937, Queens College was hailed by the people of
the borough as “the college of the future.” Firmly rooted
in its community, the College has remained on the cutting edge of national
and international developments.
The student body reflects a global diversity, with students who hail
from 120 different countries and speak more than 66 native languages.
The College also ranks 35th nationally in the number of students who
have earned Ph.D. degrees and is among the top 100 institutions awarding
Bachelor’s degrees to Hispanic students. Queens educates more
teachers than any other college in New York City. It offers well over

Located on the site of the former Oakland Country Club in northeast
Queens, Queensborough Community College continues to be an active community
partner within the borough. Under the leadership of Dr. Eduardo Marti,
now in his third year as the college’s president, the college
has launched several initiatives.
New degree and certificate programs have been established: Massage Therapy,
Health Care Administration, New Media Technology and Digital Art &
Design.
The noted QCC Art Gallery, home to an impressive and diverse collection
of art, is undergoing a major renovation designed to restore key elements
to its site – the historic Oakland Building – and increase
its activity as a cultural resource to the community.
Queensborough is known for its highly-credentialed faculty. (More than
63 percent have achieved the doctoral degree or its equivalent, compared
to 18 percent of community college faculty nationwide.) A unique and
faculty-driven initiative is the Center for Excellence in Teaching and
Learning (CETL), launched to give faculty a shared opportunity to enhance
methods of community college teaching.
More than 11,000 students are degree students, with 5,000 other students
taking courses through the college’s Continuing Education Department
each semester. More than 85 percent of the students live in the borough
of Queens.

St. John’s
University is comprised of nine colleges and institutes. Queens campus
features colleges in Liberal Arts and Sciences, Pharmacy and Allied
Health Professions, Business Administration, Education, and Human Services.
There is also an extensive graduate program.
St. John’s was founded in 1870 by the Vincentian Community and
has grown into one of America’s leading Catholic universities.

Touro College is a Jewish-sponsored independent institution of higher
and professional education, founded by Dr. Bernard Lander. The College
was established primarily to enrich the Jewish heritage, and to serve
the larger American community.
About 8,000 students are currently enrolled in the various schools and
divisions of Touro. The College derives its name from Judah and Issac
Touro, leaders of colonial America, who represented the ideals upon
which the College bases its mission. This relatively-new-to-Queens institution
with locations in Forest Hills and Flushing offers programs in business
management, computers, education, health sciences, human services and
liberal arts.

Since opening in 1966, York College/CUNY has been guided by the ideals

special needs of its urban setting. York is a senior college offering
the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in majors ranging from
liberal arts and sciences to professional programs in business and health
to teacher education. The student body reflects the cultural and ethnic
diversity of the Borough of Queens and the greater New York metropolitan
area, and consists of both traditional college age and working adult

The College is distinguished for bringing professional programs in business,
