Murder Investigation Ongoing
On Saturday, Aug. 16 police from the 106th Precinct responded to a 911 call of an unconscious man found in South Ozone Park.
Upon arrival officers found four men at the location. One of the men a black male, age 35 was unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital where he pronounced dead on arrival.
Three arrests have been made related to the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
The deceased has been identified as Rae Chisholm.
Charges are pending on two of the suspects and one has been charged. .
Rami Hawana, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with this incident.
Hawana, 22, of Queens, was arraigned Sunday afternoon before Queens Criminal Court Judge Joseph Grosso. Bail was set at $750,000 and the next court date is set for Thursday.
Attorney Christopher Renfroe represented Mr. Hawana at the arraignment, but it appears that Robert Lucks will be handling the case from here on.
The County alleged that the victim lived at the location where the murder took place. A month earlier he had taken rent money from one or two of his roommates and allegedly left secretly with the money. When he returned this weekend, the victim and his roommates became involved in a verbal dispute that then became physical. The defendant, a friend of one of the roommates, allegedly placed the victim in a chokehold to separate him from one of the roommates thereby causing his death.
