Tokyo Steak is a Japanese restaurant newly opened by Hirochi
Machida that features classic cuisine of that country. Family seating is around the
Hibachi cooking element and the menu includes appetizers of shellfish or vegetable tempura
as well as sushi.
We enjoyed the Smoked Eel (Unagi) Sushi ($2.50 a piece) and the
attractive California Roll, but there is a complete list of sushi as well as sashimi
available. Also available are beers, wines and sake, the popular Japanese drink.
We watched the performance as the skilled Chef (Fastest Knife in
Queens?) prepared our order from the dinner Hibachi menu. Meanwhile, we had Miso Soup and
the soup of the day (fresh mushroom and onion in a rich broth). Our entrée was the
Hibachi Steak ($16) with lots of bean sprouts and a special side order ($1.50) of Fried
Rice with chicken, vegetables and garlic butter. Along with a fresh Green Salad and Green
Tea, it was a light yet filling meal and also healthy.
Another entrée, the Hibachi Combination Dinner, includes shrimp, soup,
salad, Hibachi Vegetables, rice, green tea and ice cream or fruit which can be customized
to include steak or chicken ($18), chicken and steak ($19) a seafood combination of
lobster, shrimp and scallops ($25) or the Chefs Special Filet Mignon and Lobster
($25).
Our friendly, English-speaking waitress, Junko, offered a taste of all
the dessert ice creams mango, red bean and green tea at $2 per serving. Any one
makes a nice finish to your dinner.
