Located in bustling Astoria, Mini Star is a
family-owned and run business that is a staple in the community. The restaurant offers
breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and opens nice and early every day for commuters and those
who want a good hearty meal before delving into the world of every day work. On Friday and
Saturday nights Mini Star is open until 2 a.m., providing food for the night owls of the
community.
The menu is saturated with an endless
amount of choices, and the selection alone could cause you to spend the other half an
evening deciding what to order.
I started off with a coke ($1), and a large
Greek salad ($5.25) which was prepared with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers,
feta cheese, black olives, and stuffed grape leaves what a treat!
Deciding the main course was a little more
difficult. The lady sitting across from me was enjoying an enormous turkey leg, and while
it was more than tempting, I selected the baby shrimp basket ($6.95). The shrimp were deep
fried to perfection and served over a bed of french fries. Tartar sauce was plentiful for
dipping. I enjoyed the shrimp thoroughly, and doubt if my fork touched the plate once
before I was finished.
With my hunger completely satisfied, I
ordered an apple turnover ($1.25) for dessert.
The service was attentive, friendly, and
fast just like the atmosphere. Mini Star is a place that makes you feel welcome
no matter what meal of the day.
