Mezza
Luna has provided Queens residents with fine dining at affordable prices for many years.
Now
owned by John Farruggio, the family restaurant is run in the same friendly, caring manner
as always. His brother John, a professional chef and restaurateur is also on hand to cater
to diners needs.
John
suggested the Pane Caretera for starters.
The
six portions of Mozzarella, plump Tomato, and Anchovies on toasted Bread ($6.50) were
enough to share while sampling homemade Bread and Grandmas Garlic, Herb Butter with
a hint of White Wine.
Other
appetizers are a favorite among some regular diners.
Four-year-old
Tarique, of Queens Village, has been coming to Mezza Luna with his parents since I
was born, he said. The Fried Calamari is my favorite, also the Raviolis,
or pillows, as he called them.
The
specials change weekly, and are served with a complementary glass of Wine or Soda, and a
side dish of Pasta or Salad.
We
were looking forward to Mezza Lunas signature dish, Fusilli Della Luna ($10.99);
fresh Pasta served with Chicken, Shrimp and Mushrooms sautéed in a creamy Garlic sauce.
There were ample amounts of each ingredient complementing the cooked to perfection Pasta
truly a dish to brag about.
Next
we chose the Salmon Steak Ala Pasquale topped with Prosciutto, Artichoke Hearts and
sundried Tomato sautéed in Wine sauce. ($17.99). This special made for a fresh,
well-prepared enjoyable meal.
Another
family present to patrons was the Cannoli ($3.00). Other desserts include tartufo,
tiramisu, chocolate mousse, and homemade Italian cheesecake.
With
portions enough to take the rest home, Mezza Luna is a must return.
