The
next time you are looking for a friendly, relaxing spot for lunch, dinner,
a snack or a drink, try the new Maguire’s.
From
owner, Jerry Conway, to hostess, Fran, you will get attentive service. The
bar and restaurant have separate entrances and with the large French doors
that open onto Bell Boulevard, the restaurant side has a
continental flavor.
Currently
(through June 16) there are “Grand Opening dinner specials” for $13.95
which are complete meals with soup or salad, a choice of entrees, dessert
and tea or coffee. Entrees featured include a 10 oz. Filet Mignon, Filet
of Salmon or Stuffed Chicken Marsala served with a choice of both a potato
and a vegetable dish. A great bargain!
Upon
being seated, we ordered a drink and a beer from the unusually complete
beer menu. It being a Monday, the “$2 tap special all day” was in
effect so we had a Killian’s Red (plus a refill). There are other “Ale
House Week” specials on the menu so, come often and enjoy all of them.
For
the first course we had a nice house salad with blue cheese dressing on
the side. Then we ordered the Stuffed (with sausage, celery and bread
crumbs) Chicken Marsala served smothered in a rich mushroom gravy topping.
The baked potato and the string beans were our choices.
From
the menu’s list of Traditional Favorites, we tried the Beer Battered
Fish & Chips. It was an excellent choice. The “chips” were
interesting, curly fried potatoes and the “fish” were two large,
crispy, coated pieces of sole accompanied by cole slaw and tartar sauce
($9.95). Lunches offer a complete selection from appetizers to soups and
salads and an assortment of burgers (Cajun, Pizza topped, Mexican etc.)
and sandwiches from Grilled cheese to the classic Reuben.
Desserts
are daily specials. The evening we visited, it was a rich, warm pecan pie
topped with whipped cream and served with a big mug of freshly-made
coffee.
The
food is well prepared, served in generous portions and reasonably priced.
With its good service and a well-stocked bar, this is a good, new spot to
enjoy dining out.
