If you are looking for the taste of old world Italy without the cost of airfare, then look no further than Douglaston — the home of Joe’s Place Too.

In a setting reminiscent of an Italian café with the feel of a true New York pizza parlor, Joe’s serves up fine Italian fare.

Some diners stop in to pick up a slice or two, but it’s when you decide to dine in — an offer that you can’t refuse, especially when greeted by restaurant manager Dave whose 22 years of restaurant know how is evident in every delicious bite - that you will be in for a real treat.

The menu offers a full selection of everything from real New York pizza and specialty slices — Chicken Caccitore and Baked Ziti slices are most tempting to the taste buds - to fine fare like Fettuccini Carbonare, Veal Marsala, Shrimp Parmigiana and Penne ala Joe’s — the house speciality.

A meal begins with garlic bread so tasty that if you don’t control yourself, you could find yourself full before the main course.

My dining companion tried the salad with an oil and vinegar dressing that left him debating whether or not to turn vegetarian.

The Fior Di Latte (sundried tomatoes with fresh mozzarella) before dinner can be the right choice to warm up the palate.

As a main course, I selected the Chicken Parmigiana that left me singing like and feeling as large around the mid-section as Pavarotti.

With each bite that tasted better than the next, I said "fugeddabout it" to the size of the extra large portions (orders are also served with a choice of Spaghetti, Ziti or salad) and proceeded to clear the plate.

My colleague sampled the baked ziti and swore between each stringy bite that it was just as good as mama used to make.

With dishes and prices that will leave you and your wallet fat, Joe’s Too should be number one the list when its time to "mangia."

(And for those who want to take the taste home, Joe’s delivers too!)
