We welcome Gino’s to Flushing. The family-owned pizzeria and restaurant chain opens with years of experience in their restaurants in Great Neck, Manhasset and Port Washington.

Family members on hand to serve you include Sabatino and Alfredo who advised us on the house specialties. Our appetizer was the popular Pizza with Chicken, Tomato and Cheese (broccoli if desired)- attractive and tasty (14 inch pie, $15.50). The cheese and fresh marinara-topped Sicilian was also nicely done. While there, you should also try some of the different $15 pizza specialties — Ground Beef, Baked Zita or maybe Grandpa’s (broccoli di rabe and ground sausages) at $18.

Next, we enjoyed the Gino’s Salad down to the last lettuce leaf- especially the topping of shredded mozzarella and the light house dressing (small $3.75, large $4.75). Then we asked Alfredo what were some of the chef’s (from Italy) special pasta dishes and were delighted with the Gnocchi Bolognese with a sauce of ground meat (beef and pork), mushrooms, tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and garlic ($8) and the Tri-Color Pasta with mixed fresh vegetables, sun-dried tomatoes and a light Marinara sauce ($7.75).

The menu also lists many meat dishes including veal, sausages, chicken and shrimp. Baked pastas listed include Ziti, Stuffer Shells and vegetarian or Meat Lasagna for $7. Hero sandwiches range from Meatballs to Shrimp Parmigiana for $8.50.

Not to be missed are the made-on-the-premises desserts. The unusual Tira Mi Su with its touch of lemon is light and delicious ($3) and the Cannoli is rich with ricotta in a crispy roll ($2.50).

The menu is lengthy and you are sure to find something to please your palate as well as your pocketbook. Plus, you will have the attention of an experienced and attentive staff.
