First Film For Springfield Gardens Gal
Camile This
Springfield Gardens sweetheart is gearing up for work on her first motion
picture. The film is called “Fugazi” and Camile explained the movie is a
“black comedy that details the everyday life of a black person.” Camile
will play the part of Tracey Morgan’s sister’s best friend, Tess. The
much-anticipated flick begins shooting on June 18 in Long Island City,
Camile told us. Camile’s
said she has only been modeling for a short while but already she has landed
a spot in a BET fashion show and has “a few” big modeling gigs lined up
for the near future. Acting
is second nature to Camile who said she played the lead role in several
plays at P.S. 181 in Laurelton where she attended school. About
her movie debut, Camile said, “I’m excited. Acting has always been my
dream.” The
excitement has briefly postponed her studies at Audrey Cohen College where
she took off last semester to allow her to act. When
Camile finds the time, she likes to go shopping at Green Acres mall or along
Jamaica Avenue. You might catch her on “The Ave.” at the women’s fashions store Hotpoint or at the new Jamaica Multiplex where she recently saw “Murder By Numbers.”

Own Flux Capacitor?
While driving passed the automobile dealership Bimmers and Benz of North America – a used car dealership on Northern Boulevard in Bayside specializing in top of the line and rare auto brands like Mercedes, BMW, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati – a Qconfer and science fiction freak did a triple take at one of the cars being displayed on a pedestal in the lot.
A
1981 stainless steel Gullwing Deloreon: identical to the car that sent Michael
J. Fox “Back to the Future” in the famous time travel trilogy
directed by Robert Zemeckis. Wow,
we had to check this out. It
turns out that the car, which is practically in mint condition, costs a
measly $20,000 with only 41,000 miles on it. The dealership had another
Deloreon from 1980 going for $19,000 with 50,000 miles on it, but that one
was already sold by the time the Conf writer inquired. An
employee at Bimmers and Benz explained that the dealership gets many
inquiries about the Deloreon, but not all of them are serious. Of course
not, now that the car is associated with the “Back to the Future”
trilogy, which included the famous time machine built into a Deloreon. The
employee said, “We get some people just curious if they can drive the car,
or if the car is a time machine. But we also get plenty of serious inquiries
from people who are actually interested in the car.” We
asked, “Does the car come with a flux capacitor?” The flux capacitor,
for the science fiction-challenged, is the device that makes time travel
possible, according to “Back to the Future” time machine creator Doc
Brown. After hearing the absurd question, the Bimmers and Benz employee
laughed, then said, “Not on the standard model.” We
just wonder what happens on a test drive if the car hits 88 miles per hour. Is
Cheaper Better?
When
New York State deregulated electric power companies a year ago, one Queens
Co-Op almost got caught in the Enron web of deceit. Beech
Hills Corporation, a garden apartment co-op in Douglaston, went looking for
a cheaper alternative to old reliable Con Edison for electric service. So
they went out for bid and Enron – the embattled former global giant made
the lowest offer. But
just as the co-op board was about to negotiate with Enron, their
dirty-dealing scandal broke. Saved
in the nick of time, the co-op went back to Con Ed. Rap
Maestro Takes Action
Founder of Def Jam Records Russell Simmons – who is accredited with bringing black, hip-hop culture into the American mainstream – is now taking on a bigger task.
Organizing a rally last week with the United Federation of Teachers
against proposed school budget cuts by Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Simmons
had high profile hip-hop artists like Wyclef Jean, Erykah Badu, LL Cool
J, Sean Combs better known as P. Diddy take the stage. The rally drew
around 20,000 young people.
The New York City Police Department was not pleased, however.
Nine people, including rapper Wyclef Jean, were arrested and charged
with disorderly conduct.
Simmons became involved when “Sex In the City” star Cynthia
Nixon was arrested at a protest last month, and called Nixon to discuss
what he could do. Sources said
that the school budget cut issue struck a chord with him, since he was a
product of the NYC school system in Queens.
Simmons,
who grew up in a middle-class Queens neighborhood, also created the Hip-Hop
Summit Action Network to encourage political activism amongst young people
and rap artists.
