Congresswoman and Queens mom, Geraldine Ferarro.

Ferraro was the first woman on a national
election ticket - Walter Mondales running mate in his failed bid for
the U.S. Presidency in 1984. Mondale announced Ferraro as his choice for
Vice President during a press conference fromthe steps of Queens Borough
Hall. The three-term Queens congresswoman, as a housewife and mother of
three, attended law school at night while raising children, to become a
Queens assistant district attorney and founder of the DAs Special
Victims Bureau, supervising the prosecution of sex offenders.
Ferraro, has hosted CNNs
Crossfire, was an alternate U.S. Delegate to World Conference
on Human Rights in 1993; U.S. Ambassador to U.N. Human Rights
Commission, 1994-1996; Vice-Chair of U.S. delegation to Fourth World
Conference on Woman, 1995; former elementary school teacher and Queens
County assistant district attorney.
One-time board member for the National
Italian-American Foundation, the Planned Parenthood Federation of
America, and Fordham Law School, Ferraro is the author of two books.
